{"id":19969,"date":"2023-03-30T10:29:20","date_gmt":"2023-03-30T09:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/?p=19969"},"modified":"2023-03-30T10:56:55","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T09:56:55","slug":"crowning-glory-dental-patient-system-wins-start-up-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2023\/03\/crowning-glory-dental-patient-system-wins-start-up-final\/","title":{"rendered":"Crowning glory: Dental patient system wins Start Up Final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Business Start Up Journey pitching finals took place on Wednesday 29 March at the University\u2019s Sibson Building.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve student businesses went head-to-head in a bid for the top prize of \u00a31,000. <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW116058933 BCX9\">F<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW116058933 BCX9\">rom <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW116058933 BCX9\">supporting mental health<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW116058933 BCX9\"> through floristry, to using robotics and AI to improve efficiency in business and networking, the Kent students pitched a range of innovative and ambitious projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>BSc Maths and Statistics student, Seth Mashate (pictured above centre) scooped the top prize for his business, Data Ravens, which aims to streamline and use data more effectively in the dental industry.<\/p>\n<p>MSc Business Analytics student Patrick Ubuane (pictured right) was runner up for myskillconnect, a portal for creatives in Nigeria and MSc Computing student Korben Mabbs (pictured left) with a home security surveillance device used in university halls.<\/p>\n<p>Judges were CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dunelondon.com\/?msclkid=3159d58d851411e2bd68b1a8dd44f3aa&amp;utm_source=bing&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_campaign=MW%20%7C%20Dune%20%7C%20Search%20%7C%20UK%20%7C%20Brand%20Nav&amp;utm_term=dune&amp;utm_content=dune\">Dune<\/a> Daniel Rubin, Former KBS student and owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/jehu-cal.com\/\">Jehucal<\/a>, Emay Enemokwu , Laura Bounds MBE owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/kentcrisps.com\/\">Kent Crisps<\/a> and Nadia Simpson (also known as Ewura-Esi) a former KBS and ASPIRE student who runs haircare brand, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuelefa.com\/collections\/all\">Nu Elefa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20005\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20005\" style=\"width: 4928px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/03\/DragonsDen-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-20005 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/03\/DragonsDen-002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4928\" height=\"3280\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20005\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Judges (left to right) Emay, Laura Bounds, Daniel Rubin and Nadia Simpson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Winner, Seth, said: \u2018In the healthcare industry, they aren\u2019t utilising data to the best of their ability. Data Ravens offers sophistication that is currently being used in other industries within their practices. Dental practices collect so much information but they don\u2019t have the time to use any of it, to track their recall rates. ASPIRE helped me to realise where a problem was and find a solution.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019ve now been in contact with wholesalers and stores and will put it all into practice after my final year at university.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>MBA student Pranav Kashyap with Zesti.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Robotic Process Automation services enabling businesses to reduce inefficient manual repetitive processes.<\/p>\n<p>He says: \u2018My business is all about technology for RPA -robotic process automation, this is a technology where we use software rewards to improve mundane tasks.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I have worked with this technology over the last six years but now I want to launch my own. The support from the team has been amazing -especially Artur. I have to work on the marketing side of the business, that\u2019s how to take my company forward.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>BSc Management student, Izzy Cornelius-Merrell \u2013 Coeliac Kitchen. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nutritious and delicious ready meals for the gluten-intolerant market.<\/p>\n<p>She says: \u2018I was diagnosed with coeliac disease two years ago. Going into supermarkets the options out there were so limited. Looking at social media, I realised other coeliacs were feeling the same as me.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I did an enterprise module as part of my course, which Artur saw and encouraged me to take part in ASPIRE. \u00a0They\u2019ve given me support in all areas and encouraged me to be optimistic and not pessimistic.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>MSc Finance Kelvin Prince Asare-Obuobi \u2013 Syka, banking app in Nigeria<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Increasing access to finance, Kelvin\u2019s business is online banking system in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He says: \u2018My business is Syka which is a banking company. \u00a0ASPIRE have really helped me by facilitating and providing all the necessary resources to help me build a business. The ASPIRE sessions introduced me to a group of students who are entrepreneurs as well, no man is an island and is has been great to boost my network.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>MSc Business Analytics Patrick Ubuane \u2013<\/strong> myskillconnect<\/p>\n<p>A portal for creatives in Nigeria to connect, find work and get paid.<\/p>\n<p>He says: \u2018Before I came to the UK to study, I\u2019d already read about ASPIRE and it really attracted me to the University of Kent. It has been wonderful, the mentors Jo and John have helped me in all areas of my business and I have had one to one interaction, I have been able to get more details and research.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>MBA student Inetina Ebitonmor &#8211; Yellow Table Talk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Empowerment of young women through mentoring, in-person mother\/daughter \u2018dates\u2019, events and virtual conferences.<\/p>\n<p>She says: \u2018To date, we\u2019ve mentored 40 girls through difficult times and we hope we\u2019ve made powerful and tangible changes to their future outlooks. \u00a0ASPIRE have really helped elevate my business.<\/p>\n<p>It was exciting to have the opportunity to showcase the business today and take part in this competition.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/facilities\/aspire\"><strong>Interested in launching your own business?
