{"id":19834,"date":"2023-03-21T11:52:34","date_gmt":"2023-03-21T11:52:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/?p=19834"},"modified":"2023-03-21T13:26:37","modified_gmt":"2023-03-21T13:26:37","slug":"kent-union-cook-off-marks-right-to-food-initiative-at-kbs-this-feb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2023\/03\/kent-union-cook-off-marks-right-to-food-initiative-at-kbs-this-feb\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent Union cook off and poster design marks Right to Food initiative at KBS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>As part of the UN PRME UK Chapter 10<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary celebrations,\u00a0 two competitions were held for undergraduate and postgraduate students on the theme of food.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of these was to raise awareness of food insecurity, and for our students to apply their subject knowledge to this \u2018<em>Wicked Problem\u2019<\/em>, in conjunction with the launch of the University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/right-to-food\">Right to Food<\/a> initiative and the School\u2019s mission to address SDGs through its high quality education<\/p>\n<p>Teams of undergraduate students (pictured above) participated in a \u2018Ready, Steady, Cook!\u2019 competition, supported by the Student Union and ably assisted by our fabulous catering team.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19836\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19836\" style=\"width: 559px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-19836 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"559\" height=\"839\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19836\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A sumptuous curry was the winning dish<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The winners were Shamsa Mohammad and Justin Lam with a fabulous curry.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to Ben Bradley (Kent Union Student Lead) and Tim Burrows (Operations Manager, Kent Hospitality Catering) for making it possible.<\/p>\n<p>At Medway, our PGT students participated in an e-poster competition to develop a solution to a food security-related challenge.<\/p>\n<p>The winning team, from the MSc Digital Marketing and Analytics course proposed the development of an app to track the contents of our cupboards, monitor use by dates and suggest recipes for using up leftovers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19844\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19844\" style=\"width: 383px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-19844 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/03\/Picture7.png\" alt=\"A poster about a prep and save app \" width=\"383\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19844\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The winning poster design<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We hope that these events can form an integral part of the KBS calendar, providing our students with opportunities to reflect on the grand challenges facing society and apply their subject knowledge to develop innovative solutions &#8211;
