{"id":18499,"date":"2023-01-19T13:09:58","date_gmt":"2023-01-19T13:09:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/?p=18499"},"modified":"2024-10-22T08:59:49","modified_gmt":"2024-10-22T07:59:49","slug":"jehucals-emay-my-brand-wouldnt-have-grown-so-quickly-without-uni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2023\/01\/jehucals-emay-my-brand-wouldnt-have-grown-so-quickly-without-uni\/","title":{"rendered":"Jehucal&#8217;s Emay: &#8216;My brand wouldn&#8217;t have grown so quickly without uni&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Emay Enemokwu studied at Kent Business School, during his time at University he set up fashion brand, <a href=\"https:\/\/jehucal.com\/\">Jehucal<\/a>, a London-based clothing and accessories label worn by those with style, including famous names such as actor Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Arsenal player Emile Smith Rowe.<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2018I\u2019ve always loved fashion but when I was growing up I couldn\u2019t afford the brands I wanted to wear, so I thought if I can\u2019t buy it, I\u2019ll make it.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Having his own fashion brand was a dream, but Emay was realistic about how to achieve it. \u2018When I wrote my personal statement, I said I was coming to Kent to get the skills to start my own company that will be recognised worldwide.\u2019<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">True to his word, Emay started Jehucal at the end of his first year, but it was in his second year, with the support of ASPIRE (which helps students to develop business ideas), that it really took off.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"kent-video-wrapper\"><span class='embed-youtube' style='text-align:center; display: block;'><iframe class='youtube-player' type='text\/html' width='1140' height='672' src='https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KXNE3dbTrHo?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;wmode=transparent' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen='true'><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Building a business while studying is hard but for Emay, university was the ideal place to start.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He says: \u2018I switched my degree from business management to accounting, made notes in lectures and implemented them straightaway. Even now I\u2019m still using my notes! I don\u2019t think my brand would have grown so quickly if I hadn\u2019t been at uni. I met people from all over the world; in \u2018normal\u2019 life our paths wouldn\u2019t have crossed, but at uni you chill and share ideas, then they know someone who knows someone, and on it goes.\u2019<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2018Just two hours after finishing my last exam, I received an email saying my brand had been picked to curate an installation for London Fashion Week. It was surreal; the most exciting moment of my career so far at that point.\u2019<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17405\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17405\" style=\"width: 3600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2022\/10\/DSC_9797.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-17405 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2022\/10\/DSC_9797.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3600\" height=\"2403\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17405\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emay presenting at the launch of the 2022 Business Start Up Journey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Emay has been moving forward ever since, producing high-quality, high-end, in-demand fashion, including his iconic \u2018Mirrors\u2019 bags. His latest venture is a capsule collection in collaboration with Chivas Regal, creating \u2018Memories that last Till Forever\u2019 that launched in November 2022.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI studied accounting and management so that I could understand the finance side of business, while also learning about merchandising, buying and people management.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16818\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16818\" style=\"width: 5760px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2022\/08\/EMAY.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-16818 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2022\/08\/EMAY.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5760\" height=\"3840\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16818\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Emay as an undergraduate wearing the first T-Shirt he made during his Selfie year<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Emay is not just a fashion innovator, he was also a pioneer of Kent\u2019s \u2018selfie\u2019 year, which allows students to spend their year in industry developing their own business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He says: \u2018I\u2019m proud that I was able to leave an imprint on such a big establishment; a legacy for future students.\u2019<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/facilities\/aspire\"><strong>Interested in taking a Selfie year with ASPIRE?
