{"id":18295,"date":"2023-01-11T17:26:52","date_gmt":"2023-01-11T17:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/?p=18295"},"modified":"2024-07-30T09:42:49","modified_gmt":"2024-07-30T08:42:49","slug":"guest-lecture-on-sustainability-welcomed-by-mba-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2023\/01\/guest-lecture-on-sustainability-welcomed-by-mba-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Guest Lecture on sustainability welcomed by MBA students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Our MBA Guest Lecture on Sustainable Business, held on Friday 25 November, was a great success with 46 current and former students attending both online and in person.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 90-minute event, held in Kent Business School\u2019s MBA Suite was organised by MBA Students <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/thekentmbacommunity\/2021\/09\/03\/james-havey\/\">James Havey<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/thekentmbacommunity\/2021\/09\/06\/manish-shah\/\">Manish Shah, <\/a>chaired by MBA Course Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/people\/senior-leadership-team\/2401\/kemp-debbie\">Debbie Kemp<\/a> and included a presentation from Dr Balasubramanyam Chandramohan PhD, FHEA, a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London.<\/p>\n<p>Bala presented alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/thekentmbacommunity\/2021\/09\/03\/nicholas-phillips\/\">Nick Phillips,<\/a> an MBA student and Sustainability Ambassador for KBS, who has a background in energy saving technology.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18297\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18297\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/01\/Nicholas.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-18297 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/01\/Nicholas.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"493\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nick Phillips<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nick said: <em>&#8216;Dr Balasubramanyam (Bala) Chandramohan and I are members of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccap.org.uk\/\">Canterbury Climate Action Partnership (CCAP)<\/a> which\u00a0<\/em><em>is a multi-stakeholder non-profit organisation that promotes grass roots action and collaboration.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8216;It was a privilege to be MBA guest lecturers and share our recent experience of carrying official UNFCCC observer status at COP27. Our &#8216;Diary of COP27&#8217; was structured around each thematic day of our attendance, such as Energy Day, Biodiversity Day and Solutions Day. Our presentation also considered the breakthrough agreement from COP27 on &#8216;Loss and damage&#8217; funding for vulnerable countries and its signifying effect for climate justice.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Grace Smith, Environment Specialist Consultant also took to the podium, sharing some of her insights into the world of ESG, green finance and climate change solutions followed by a Q&amp;A session.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees on the day remarked on the insightful nature of the content of the speeches. Fellow MBA student Sarah Alobaid said: \u201c<em>The importance of introducing seminars and workshops on sustainability will inspire us and increase our awareness. As humans, we have been born for a good reason, and that reason is to save the earth\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18298\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18298\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/01\/Grace-Smith-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-18298 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/01\/Grace-Smith-002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18298\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Grace Smith<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Steph Cooper, who attended the event, said: \u201c<em>Having not attended an MBA guest lecture before I wasn\u2019t sure what to expect. I was overwhelmed by the knowledge and expertise of presenters and their calm and informative approach.
