{"id":14314,"date":"2021-03-11T11:17:14","date_gmt":"2021-03-11T11:17:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-matters\/?p=5070"},"modified":"2021-03-11T11:17:14","modified_gmt":"2021-03-11T11:17:14","slug":"from-vegan-food-to-bikinis-our-business-start-up-journey-finalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2021\/03\/from-vegan-food-to-bikinis-our-business-start-up-journey-finalists\/","title":{"rendered":"From Vegan Food to Bikinis: Our Business Start Up Journey Finalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">The finalists have been chosen for this year\u2019s Business Start-Up Journey competition, with potentially winning pitches including a vegan e-commerce site, swimwear brand, a nutrition and fitness app and a portable light ring.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-matters\/tag\/bsuj\/\">BSUJ<\/a> is a co-curricular programme of interactive practical workshops open to students from any School or Faculty at the University of Kent, at any level of study from Stage 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/\">undergraduate<\/a>\u00a0to final year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/\">postgraduate<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/research-phds\/index.html\">PhD<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Journey, which is part of the University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/studyplus\/\">Study Plus programme<\/a>, takes students through the process of starting a business \u2013 from finding an idea, testing it, establishing finances and start-up costs, to pitching to investors.<\/p>\n<p>The programme ends with a Dragon&#8217;s Den style pitching competition, where hopefuls battle it out to win a cash prize for investment in their business.\u00a0 The final will take place via Zoom on March 31 2021.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>The Finalists\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Geraldine Nythal, for <strong>My Care Buddy,<\/strong> a CRM that will empower carers and care providers to collect, store and analyse client health data to enable data driven decision making in care.<\/li>\n<li>Viktoria Bogos, for <strong>FlipLight Ltd,<\/strong> a phone accessory company that makes a portable, wireless ring light: \u2018The FlipLight\u2019. FlipLight makes it possible to light any target in a five-meter radius (even outdoor), using both front and rear phone cameras.<\/li>\n<li>Jessica Lambert for a brand-new fitness and wellbeing app which aims for individuals to track milestones, sharing their own progress, workouts and nutrition whilst getting inspiration from others.<\/li>\n<li>Naavyaa Ranjan for<strong> Rganica, <\/strong>a natural, vegan hair care brand\u00a0 that responds to increasing demand of completely natural and vegan hair care products and scalp scrubs.<\/li>\n<li>Mercy Adeniji for <strong>VeGate,<\/strong> a vegan food delivery service, an ethical and efficient way of getting all your vegan necessities in one place and delivered to your doorstep.<\/li>\n<li>Emmanuel Ojo-Williams for <strong>Mind Share,<\/strong> an all-in-one platform for creating, selling and marketing digital products.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Uni Connect<\/strong> &#8211; launched by a team of students\u00a0 (Miguel Cardona, Astrid Marilyn Whitehouse, Victor Naya Del Rosario, Gracia Gimen\u00e9z Fern\u00e1ndez, Francisco Vives Jim\u00e9nez and Celia Castuera Men\u00e9ndez) is a platform that connects students, alumni and staff from the same university, allowing them to work together on small scale projects such as start-ups, societies and clubs.<\/li>\n<li>Shanice Edwards for <strong>SlayNSwim, <\/strong>a swimsuit company for all unique shapes and body sizes. The brand aims to cater to all body types while enhancing different curves and shapes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>The Prizes<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The winner of the pitching competition will receive \u00a31000 to help start their business, with two runners-up prizes of \u00a3500 each.
