Its remit is simple \u2013 to help you to grow a business from concept to fruition. ASPIRE is the home of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/news\/12008\/wednesday-20-october-the-business-start-up-journey-launches\">Business Start-Up Journey<\/a>, a 15-week programme run by Kent Business School that is designed to help students create and run successful businesses that ends in a Dragons Den style pitching competition. The centre also guides students through their <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-matters\/2020\/10\/08\/what-is-a-selfie\/\">Selfie Year.<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/emay.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11987 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/emay.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Emay Enemokwu,<\/strong><strong> a former BSc <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/235\/accounting-and-finance\"><strong>Accounting and Finance<\/strong><\/a><strong> student launched Jehu-Cal in 2019 via the Business Start Up Journey. His brand has been featured in Vogue and he has collaborated with Nike.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI started\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jehu-cal.com\/\">Jehu-cal<\/a>\u00a0during my first year of university when I joined the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/PY9YB-T6ltE\">BSUJ programme<\/a>. The BSUJ helped me to take Jehu-cal from a hobby to a business that has grown to the point where I now have my own accountant for it and employees.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/lauren.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11988 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/lauren.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/3731\/business-and-management\"><strong>B<\/strong><strong>usiness and Management<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0student <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2021\/07\/how-my-love-for-pets-inspired-a-paw-fect-business-plan\/\"><strong>Lauren Portnall<\/strong><\/a><strong> launched pet accessories business TigTumTails in 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDuring my Selfie year, the guys at<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/facilities\/aspire\">\u00a0ASPIRE<\/a>\u00a0got me through. They guided me through the complicated stuff \u2013 like legal issues and helped develop new creative ideas. Starting a business can be quite lonely and having a network who are there for you, was a huge help.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/docious.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11989 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/docious.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>B<\/strong><strong>usiness and Management students<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2021\/07\/milking-it-how-our-selfie-year-idea-is-shaking-up-the-drinks-industry\/\"><strong>Roshini Kaur and Uwais Mahmood<\/strong><\/a> <strong>launched milkshake brand, Docious, in 2021 <\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cASPIRE taught us about planning for a business, what credentials you need, things to get in place and most importantly \u2013 identifying a solution to a current problem in the market. We also met people from different corners of the globe, different courses, with different ideas \u2013 it was really inspiring.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/Mercy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11990 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/Mercy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Economics student <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2021\/04\/mercy-adeniji-is-our-2021-business-start-up-award-journey-winner\/\">Mercy Adeniji<\/a> won the 2021 Business Start Up Journey Awards with VeGate, a vegan food delivery service.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Business Start Up Journey enabled me to build a brand from idea to product, the support you receive is just amazing. Simply being part of the process was enough for me, but winning it has blown my mind.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/naavyaa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11991 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/naavyaa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/3731\/business-and-management\"><strong>Business and Management<\/strong><\/a><strong> student <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2021\/04\/indian-roots-how-mums-haircare-recipe-inspired-my-start-up-brand\/\"><strong>Naavyaa Ranjan<\/strong><\/a><strong> launched vegan haircare brand Rganica in 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAt first, I saw the Business Start Up Journey as a social activity, a little bit of fun and good experience but soon a fire was ignited in me, and I realised I wanted to launch my own business one day. The support and advice from the team was so valuable. Having entrepreneurs on hand to support me along the way, I soon moved on from wanting to manage someone else\u2019s business to developing a desire to launch a start-up. It taught me steps and processes of finding a business idea that will work.\u00a0 Nowhere else will you learn how to formulate an idea and let it grow,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/giovanni.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11993 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/giovanni.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Final year <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/868\/marketing-bsc\"><strong>Marketing<\/strong><\/a><strong> student <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2021\/08\/how-aspire-gave-my-denim-fashion-label-the-x-factor\/\"><strong>Giovanni Morgan<\/strong><\/a><strong> launched fashion label MGX Jeans during his Selfie Year, in 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI would advise anyone to take the Selfie Year or to utilise ASPIRE in other ways if you have a business idea. It might be difficult to transition straight into the workplace immediately and this really allows you to take it in your stride.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/nadia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11994 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/nadia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Accounting and Finance<\/strong><strong> student <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/2021\/03\/kbs-student-nadia-simpson-featured-in-forbes-with-her-sustainable-beauty-brand\/\"><strong>Nadia Simpson<\/strong><\/a><strong> , also known as <\/strong><strong>Ewura-esi <\/strong><strong>launched her beauty brand Nadia Esi\u00a0in 2020 as part of a Selfie Year. She was featured in several press publications, including Forbes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cASPIRE taught me to be independent, outgoing and to take up opportunities that I would have probably said no to if I was working in on a traditional placement. I was able to see this world from a different perspective.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/alan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11995 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2021\/09\/alan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"750\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alan Gurung (Philosophy and Politics BA), and his business partner John Arceno (Biology BSc) developed their Community Interest Company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/news\/9258\/business-start-up-journey-2020-winners-announced\">WHYCampus,<\/a> through Kent\u2019s Business Start-Up Journey programme.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cASPIRE is incredible and what makes it really special is the people that you get to meet. It\u2019s a journey of 15 weeks where you try to transform your passion into a legitimate business that will influence people\u2019s lives.
