If you are joining Kent Business School and are studying on our Canterbury Campus this year, there are plenty of things you can do in your spare time. University life isn’t all about lectures and seminars, Canterbury and the surrounding areas offer endless opportunities for socialising, shopping, sports and much much more.<\/p>\n

  1. Visit the cobbled streets of Canterbury City. <\/strong>\u00a0The world-famous historical bustling city houses shops, bars, restaurants, theatres, tourist attractions and a world-famous cathedral \u2013 where you will graduate once you finish your degree!<\/li>\n
  2. Have a roar-some day out. <\/strong>Hop over to\u00a0Howletts Aspinall Wild Animal Park<\/a> where you can see the UK’s largest herd of African elephants amongst 390 other species of animals or Wingham Wildlife Park<\/a> which alongside the animals, is a shrine to the prehistoric with its dinosaur zoo.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Make it Memorable, at Margate – the third trendiest place in the UK.<\/strong> The famous seaside town was voted trendier to live in than London in a recent ranking.<\/strong>\u00a0Whether you go retro at the country’s most famous fairground inspired theme park Dreamland,<\/a> enjoy the sandy beaches or check out the Turner Contemporary<\/a>, there is something for everyone. The nightlife and music scene of Margate have a buzz that rivals a major city. Highlights include the Love Caf\u00e9<\/a>, owned by Libertines front man Carl Barat and The Albion Rooms<\/a>, brainchild of Pete Doherty.<\/li>\n
  4. Paddle board or kayak\u00a0around Westgate Gardens<\/a>. <\/strong>This 11-acre green space is set around Tower House, a medieval bastion constructed to defend Canterbury’s city wall, the River Stour flows through the site.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  5. Use the shuttle bus to our Medway campus. <\/strong>Our free bus service runs regularly to our sister campus. Check out\u00a0the vintage shops, bars and restaurants of historic\u00a0Rochester\u00a0and\u00a0visit the Copper Rivet Distillery,<\/a> where you can have a gin tasting tour. Cheers!<\/li>\n
  6. Plan an escape from Westgate Tower <\/strong>The award-winning\u00a0Escape\u00a0In\u00a0The\u00a0Towers<\/a> is set within England\u2019s largest surviving Medieval gateway built in 1380 and a former 1830s jailhouse and is a nail-biting experience to get the adrenaline pumping.<\/li>\n
  7. Cycle, walk or run around Blean Woods Nature Reserve <\/a><\/strong>Take one of the five winding trails by foot or bike in this quiet, relaxing tranquillity \u2013 if you\u2019re lucky you might spot some woodpeckers or nightingales on your way.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  8. Visit a Kent coastal town.\u00a0<\/strong>The Kent coast is home to countless Blue Flag beaches.\u00a0<\/strong>From Stone Bay, Joss Bay and Botany Bay in Broadstairs to Ramsgate and its rolling seas – sun, sea and sand are just a short drive, train or bus ride from our Canterbury campus. Whitstable’s stony shores are a must visit for seafood lovers. Whitstable oysters have been harvested there since Roman times and can be enjoyed in popular outlets such as Wheeler’s Oyster Bar<\/a>, which can trace its roots back to 1856.<\/li>\n
  9. Catch a Show. The Marlowe Theatre<\/a><\/strong> offers a cultural delight of stage productions and workshops. Closer to home, The Gulbenkian<\/a> is right on campus and this year will run shows from the likes of one-man-maestro Beans on Toast, Russian punk band Pussy Riot and comedy delights from Chris McCausland.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
