The Careers and Employability Service are still operating – almost ‘as normal’ – the only difference is that there’s no face-to-face contact. We’re still offering appointments, practice interviews and Quick Advice (bookable via https://careers.kent.ac.uk) either by video or telephone, and are hosting and delivering numerous workshops each week. The good news is that we’ve decided to extend our event programme so that it will run throughout the summer vacation, so there’s plenty of support available! We are still hearing from employers every week who are looking to recruit Kent students and graduates, and some of the roles we’re advertising at the moment are work-from-home opportunities.
We have some fantastic resources on Moodle (DP4450: Careers & Employability Service 2019/20) including ‘Developing your skills at home’ (under ‘Graduate Attributes and Employability Skills’) which lists places to find virtual internships, online courses, remote working opportunities, volunteering opportunities, as well as ways in which you can develop your commercial awareness during this time. We also have lots of careers workshops that we/employers have delivered previously that you can take a look at.
If you have some spare time during lockdown, try to use it wisely to develop your skills or work on an area of weakness. Many of you will have the joy of psychometric tests coming up in the near future, so why not use this time to practice? Once you’ve registered using your Kent email address, you’ll be able to access not only practice psychometric tests, but also game assessments and video interviews (which use AI to ‘read’ your facial expressions): https://www.graduatesfirst.com/university-career-services/kent/
These are just a few things we can help you with, but there’s a whole host of additional information on our website: www.kent.ac.uk/ces If we can help in any way, whether you’re thinking about getting work experience, finding a placement, looking for a graduate job, applying for further study, taking a year out… whatever it is, please do get in touch!
