It enables students and staff to securely store, access, and share files from anywhere with an internet connection. <\/p>\n<h3><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What is happening<\/span><\/h3>\n<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MailCompose\">We\u2019re upgrading the<a id=\"OWAec6940ff-6259-b058-5c1c-b0213044b80a\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/student.kent.ac.uk\/studies\/save-files-to-the-kent-network\">\u00a0University&#8217;s file storage system<\/a>\u00a0(known as &#8216;files.kent&#8217; or the &#8216;Kent network&#8217;) to provide a more reliable and robust service for staff and students. This is\u00a0<b>not the same\u00a0<\/b>as\u00a0<a id=\"OWA6b16608e-ae37-28ec-674e-d182df4930f9\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" href=\"https:\/\/student.kent.ac.uk\/studies\/file-storage-saving-and-sharing-files\/onedrive\">OneDrive<\/a>, which is your individual storage space in Microsoft 365. Access to OneDrive is not affected by any of this work. The upgrades will happen in two phases: a brief upgrade in early December, followed by a larger upgrade in January 2025.<\/div>\n<h3>What to expect<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366\"><b>December Upgrade (Thur 5 Dec 2024):<\/b> <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On this date, the system will undergo a minor update in the early hours.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:240,&quot;335559739&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Time:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Early morning (06:30 &#8211; 07:30)<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Expected Impact:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Files may be temporarily unavailable during a short period<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove spacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\"><span style=\"color: #003366\"><strong>January Upgrade (Sun 5 Jan \u2013 Fri 10 Jan 2025): <\/strong><\/span>We\u2019ll complete the larger upgrade to fully transition to the new system in early January. Work will focus on completing all user\/personal folders at the start of the week, with shared\/departmental folders following on after.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. User\/Personal <\/strong>folders<strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Time<\/strong>: Overnight (from 7pm) on Sunday 5th January<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expected Impact:<\/strong> The whole of files.kent will not be accessible during this overnight upgrade, meaning files saved on files.kent cannot be viewed or edited during this period<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"fontSizeLarge\"><strong>2. Departmental <\/strong>folders<strong>:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Time<\/strong>: Either overnight or early morning (dates to be confirmed based on consultation with departments)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expected Impact<\/strong>: Departmental folders will not be accessible during their upgrade, meaning those files cannot be viewed or edited during this period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We\u2019ve scheduled this work to take place before the start of term to keep disruption to a minimum. As work progresses, our teams will be monitoring closely and provide updates, including timings for your department\u2019s folder migration.<\/p>\n<h3>End result<\/h3>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These upgrades won\u2019t change how you access or work with your files. <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Once completed, everything will look and work the same way it does now.
