{"id":23376,"date":"2023-03-13T09:59:18","date_gmt":"2023-03-13T09:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/?p=23376"},"modified":"2023-03-13T09:59:18","modified_gmt":"2023-03-13T09:59:18","slug":"institutional-apc-fund-top-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/institutional-apc-fund-top-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Institutional APC fund top up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Information Services has topped up the institutional APC fund with an extra \u00a315,000 from library funds<\/p>\n<p>In addition to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/guides\/open-access-at-kent\/article-processing-charges-apcs\/read-and-publish-agreements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read and Publish agreements<\/a> the University of Kent has that enable our corresponding authors to publish Open Access without needing to acquire separate funding for an APC<\/li>\n<li>and the UKRI Open Access block grant that can be used to pay for OA for articles and conference proceedings arising from UKRI funded projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also have an APC institutional fund that runs August-July. This is run on a first come first served basis but applications are subject to a quality assessment by your Divisional Directors of Research.<\/p>\n<p>We recently closed applications to use the institutional APC fund because commitments were only \u00a3900 short of the amount set aside.<\/p>\n<h2>Additional funds made available by the library<\/h2>\n<p>Because we wish to support researchers and Open Access as much as we can, we have <strong>transferred \u00a315,000 worth of library funds to the institutional APC fund<\/strong>.\u00a0 We have calculated that we can accommodate this and feel it would be a targeted and strategic use of resources.<\/p>\n<p>Applications to use the institutional APC funds are now open again.<\/p>\n<h2>Consider Open Access at an early stage<\/h2>\n<p>We advise authors to consider Open Access at an early stage when they are compiling dissemination plans and when selecting titles. The best way to do this is to use a <a href=\"https:\/\/eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.kent.ac.uk%2Fguides%2Fopen-access-at-kent%2Farticle-processing-charges-apcs%2Fread-and-publish-journal-search&amp;data=05%7C01%7CR.Bass-583%40kent.ac.uk%7Cee1a0d816b774e98744708db1bd07596%7C51a9fa563f32449aa7213e3f49aa5e9a%7C0%7C0%7C638134354353778109%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=f6WzAK9pMQuTS3edRUjNTv9hINZytcUrL6fqt%2FnOE2Y%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-auth=\"Verified\" data-linkindex=\"2\">journal included in one of our agreements<\/a>.
