When it&#8217;s available, you&#8217;ll see <strong>Start transcription<\/strong> when you click the ellipses in the meeting control bar.<\/p>\n<h2>Video transcripts are essential for efficient working<\/h2>\n<p><strong>You need to create captions for all your video recordings for accessibility reasons<\/strong>. The captions also generate a transcript. They&#8217;re easy to produce; the software does most of the work for you.<\/p>\n<p>Captions and transcripts have <strong>benefits for everyone<\/strong>, that you might not be aware of.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Captions make your video more findable in searches: Google and other search engines will search the keywords to help people find relevant content<\/li>\n<li>If you want to replay a specific topic or agenda item, you can instantly jump to the relevant part of the video by searching the transcript for a relevant keyword<\/li>\n<li>You can export the video transcript to turn it into meeting notes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Creating them takes very little effort as you&#8217;ll see below.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18748\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18748\" style=\"width: 1191px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-18748 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2021\/05\/stream-searching-video-transcript.png\" alt=\"When playing the video in Stream the transcript shows on the right. In this example a search for 'Visiting' jumps to 7 minutes in when the section on visiting the library is covered.\" width=\"1191\" height=\"452\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18748\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Using transcriptions for video: it lets people search your video and go directly to the topic they&#8217;re interested in<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>How to create the transcript<\/h2>\n<p>You&#8217;ll need to turn on captions before you record, and correct any errors in the final recording.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"numbered-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/stream\/portal-autogenerate-captions#enable-autogenerated-captions-for-your-video\" data-link-type=\"external\">Make sure auto-generated captions (subtitles) are turned on before you record<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Once the recording is done there&#8217;s a link to it in your meeting chat<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>ellipses next to the video<\/strong> file and click the option to <strong>open it in Stream<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>You should see the transcript\/captions displayed next to the video<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>pencil icon to correct any text errors <\/strong>and add any contextual information<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Download the transcript to share as meeting notes<\/h2>\n<p>To download the transcript file:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to Stream: search for Stream at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.office.com\">www.office.com<\/a> and log in with your Kent IT details if prompted<\/li>\n<li>From the top menu within Stream, click <strong>My content<\/strong> then <strong>Videos<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>To edit your video click the <strong>Pencil icon<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under the Options heading click the <strong>Download file<\/strong> link<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18753\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18753\" style=\"width: 991px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18753\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2021\/05\/stream-download-transcript.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"991\" height=\"684\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18753\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">To download the transcript file, open your video in Stream and edit it; under the Options heading you&#8217;ll see the download file link<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Text transcripts are coming back:\u00a0it will be possible from some time in June to generate a text transcript of your meeting without recording video.
