{"id":18231,"date":"2021-03-26T14:29:43","date_gmt":"2021-03-26T14:29:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/?p=18231"},"modified":"2021-03-26T14:46:21","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T14:46:21","slug":"british-standards-available-at-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/british-standards-available-at-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"British Standards available at Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have a new subscription set up with the British Standards Institution that allows us to download a number of standards from their BSOL (British Standards Online) collection for unlimited use in teaching and research.<\/p>\n<p>There are several types of documents that appear in BSOL, these include standards which are published by BSI, adopted or in the process of adoption by BSI. Certain third part content providers are also available on BSI, currently this includes ASTM, IEC and ISO.<\/p>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p>To access this resource go to <a href=\"https:\/\/bsol.bsigroup.com\/\">BSOL <\/a>and use the Institutional Login. There is no need to register.<\/p>\n<p>You can search for standards you need by the standard number or keywords.\u00a0 If you are unsure of the letter prefix of a standard number\u00a0 i.e BSI EN 123, then leave this out and just use the number. This will return all updates and versions with BSI and other standard bodies in your search results.<\/p>\n<p>There is also the option to browse standards by subject. BSOL uses the\u00a0<strong>ICS (International Classification for Standards)<\/strong> structure which guides you from broad areas to more specific and can then be combined with search terms as well.<\/p>\n<p>Once you find a standard you are interested click on the title to get full detail of the standard and check it is exactly what you need.<\/p>\n<p>You can preview the first few pages including the contents before you request it to ensure it is the right standard.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2021\/03\/bsi1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-18232 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2021\/03\/bsi1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you have found what you need then click on \u2018send request to add to custom collection&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2021\/03\/bsi2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-18233\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2021\/03\/bsi2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"549\" height=\"599\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To have your request approved please<a href=\"https:\/\/help.kent.ac.uk\/tas\/public\/ssp\/content\/serviceflow?unid=bef53445778f4e0e9ca06b3a878eddfd\"><strong>\u00a0also complete an online form <\/strong><\/a>stating the standard and reason for request for example, \u201cfor use in research project \u201c.
