Your 2023-24<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>draft reading lists<\/span> for Canterbury <\/a><\/span>and Medway\u00a0<\/a><\/span>modules<\/span>\u00a0are now available for editing and publishing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Log in and search for your modules by title<\/span>, then click +My Lists<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We review lists in the order that they arrive so the earlier you can publish your list, the better. This also ensures we have time to source accessible versions for students with print disabilities. Further information can be found in the section ‘When to update your reading list’.<\/span><\/p>\n

When your list is published and has been reviewed by our reading list team, you’ll receive a confirmation email<\/span> letting<\/span> you know.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

What<\/strong> to include<\/span><\/h2>\n

Go digital<\/h3>\n

We’re continuing to focus on digital resources,<\/span> w<\/span>e recom<\/span>mend searching for online sources wherever available<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your\u00a0liaison librarian<\/a>\u00a0can help you find\u00a0online\u00a0resources\u00a0and recommend\u00a0additional\u00a0sources that\u00a0will\u00a0give your\u00a0reading list\u00a0an edge. Collating a reading list should be a collaborative process and we’re keen to work with you on\u00a0identifying\u00a0the best\u00a0resources\u00a0to support learning and teaching\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Make use of existing resources\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Use\u00a0<\/span>LibrarySearch<\/span><\/a> to see if we have existing books and journals that would be useful in your module. Remember that not every <\/span>e-<\/span>resource\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>included in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>LibrarySearch<\/span>, so\u00a0<\/span>look<\/span>\u00a0at the\u00a0<\/span>subject guides<\/span><\/a>\u00a0put together by our librarian team too<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>he digital resource directory<\/a><\/span> lists all e-resource collections we subscribe to, plus some quality free resources that you can make use of.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have created a reading list<\/a> of books and chapters that the University of Kent submitted as part of the Research Excellence Framework 2021 exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>A diverse range of resources\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Research, both nationally and at the University of Kent, shows that reading lists that consider the diversity of the student body improve engagement and help to develop key graduate attributes. A minor change to your course materials could make a major change to the way a student<\/span>, or a group of students, responds<\/span>\u00a0to the course.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have a\u00a0<\/span>Diversity Mark<\/span><\/a>\u00a0scheme at the University of Kent. It is an award given to those modules that can offer a diverse and inclusive range of resources for their students via their reading lists.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alternative formats<\/h3>\n

Accessible content<\/a> is easier for everyone to access. To support students with a print disability the Library will source electronic copies of the texts from the module’s reading list. It is important to publish your reading list in order for the library to do this. The Accessible Information Team<\/a> will contact you if this is required for a student on your module. No extra work is required – you will just need to publish your reading list.<\/p>\n

How <\/strong>to edit<\/span><\/h2>\n

If\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ve not used\u00a0<\/span>our online reading list service before<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>or need a<\/span>\u00a0refresh, check out\u00a0<\/span>our<\/span> Reading List Support<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for in depth\u00a0<\/span>help.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 1: Open your draft list and review any<\/span> resources that are currently on it<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>All\u00a0<\/span>resources<\/span>\u00a0automatically<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>roll<\/span>\u00a0over<\/span> from the 22-23 module list so <\/span>remove resources that are no longer relevant<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 2:\u00a0<\/span>Structure your list<\/strong> in a way that makes sense for your module<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0It’s up to you what sections you include<\/span>: some conveners like to group readings by week, some prefer\u00a0<\/span>topic-based<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0A clear structure makes\u00a0<\/span>your list easier to navigate and is more accessible, especially<\/span>\u00a0for students using assistive technologies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 3: Add new resources if needed. The\u00a0<\/span>bookmarklet tool<\/span><\/a>\u00a0makes this quick and easy<\/span> or you can add books directly to your list by clicking add resource<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

STEP 4:\u00a0<\/span>Set the\u00a0reading importance\u00a0for every resource<\/strong>. The benefits of this are two-fold: it helps us know which resources to prioritise when ordering\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0it le<\/span>ts<\/span>\u00a0your students know which readings to focus on.<\/span><\/p>\n

When<\/strong> to edit your list<\/span><\/h2>\n

The<\/span> sooner you publish your lists, the sooner we can start reviewing them and we recommend working on your list as soon as you can.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you publish your list before\u00a0<\/span>August<\/span>\u00a0w<\/span>e have the best chance of providing your resources for the beginning of term and you will be informed if there is\u00a0<\/span>anything<\/span> we are unable to buy. We then have good time to work with you on identifying alternatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Any lists published from August onwards will be added to a queue and\u00a0<\/span>there\u2019s a chance<\/span>\u00a0that extra resources w<\/span>on\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0be available for the beginning of term.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
