Key achievements this year have been:<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Book Group club<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The Library, Kent Union and Student Support and Wellbeing have created a book club for students beyond academia in a confidential and safe library space.\u00a0 Topics have included LGBTQ+, with discussions about books and the themes of gender identity and sexuality.\u00a0 Of the 258 books purchased, we\u2019ve had 473 page views, 452 clicks and 32 annotations.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Library spaces to reduce stress<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The chill out zone is now open seven days a week and is only closed for cleaning between 06:00 and 08:00.\u00a0 Students have told us that they \u201clove the room\u201d and that it is an \u201camazing concept\u201d.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Diversity in our collections<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The Diversity Mark project has produced a \u2018diversity dashboard\u2019 for reading lists that provides academics with a space to reflect on their resource choices and kick-start discussions with students.\u00a0 This work is mainstreaming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/guides\/reading-list-support-for-academic-staff\/diversify-your-reading-list#diversity-mark-award\">library support to diverse library collections<\/a>.\u00a0 The feedback from students provided clear evidence of the value of the project to their own critical reflection.\u00a0 <em>\u201cThere was an assumption that the reading list was white British male-oriented and that\u2019s just the way it is. Students are heavily dependent on their lecturers and what they recommend as reading\u201d. \u2013 <\/em>Evangeline Agyeman, School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research, May 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The work has led to winning the Talis Aspire User Group Creativity Award 2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2020\/02\/Talis-award.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-15158\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2020\/02\/Talis-award-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Students Collins Konadu-Mensah and Evangeline Agyeman and Liaison Librarian Sarah Field accepted the Talis Aspire User Group Creativity Award 2019 award on behalf of the Diversity Mark project\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2020\/02\/Talis-award-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2020\/02\/Talis-award-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/files\/2020\/02\/Talis-award.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students Collins Konadu-Mensah and Evangeline Agyeman and Liaison Librarian Sarah Field accepted the award on behalf of the project<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Making our digital content accessible<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Library and technical staff have played key roles in the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/landodlatestnews\/2019\/04\/18\/kent-digital-accessibility-working-group-kdawg\/\">Kent Digital Accessibility Working Group<\/a>, by sharing best practice with the digital inclusion alliance, and have been fundamental to the development of an accessible web template and with the roll out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/studentsupport\/accessibility\/ally.html\">Blackboard Ally<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Open Accessibility<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Kent published Open Access journals are now being offered a Blackboard Ally module to \u2018accessibility check\u2019 journal content prior to publication. <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.kent.ac.uk\/index.php\/ajpp\"><em>Advanced Journal of Professional Practice<\/em><\/a> is the first to sign up. We\u2019re excited about the future of this offering and expanding the Open Access ethos at Kent.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>\u2018Out and Proud\u2019 Exhibition<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/templeman-exhibitions\/2018\/04\/10\/out-and-proud\/\">Out and proud<\/a>\u2019 was led and curated by <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/lgbtstaff\/\">Kent\u2019s LGBTQ staff network<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/library\/specialcollections\/about\/index.html\">Special Collections and Archives<\/a> team.\u00a0 It showcased some of Kent\u2019s LGBT+ champions, role models, and allies to highlight the amazing people on our campuses, share experiences, good and bad, and to be a reminder that we are all citizens of this beautifully diverse world.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Health and wellbeing through library collections<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/rl.talis.com\/3\/kent\/lists\/ECDD61C4-FFED-F0AA-87F3-9A7B2B8B4D73\/edit\">Wellbeing and Self Help collection reading list<\/a> has been updated with an additional 73 books.\u00a0 Selected books from the reading list have been on display over the Spring and Summer in the Templeman Library and more than 100 titles have been borrowed by students.\u00a0 The now accessible <a href=\"https:\/\/librarysearch.kent.ac.uk\/client\/en_GB\/kent\/search\/results?qu=Prescriptions:+Artists%27+Books+Collection&amp;if=el%09edsSelectFacet%09FT1&amp;ir=Library&amp;isd=true\">Prescriptions: Artists\u2019 Books Collection<\/a>, with books by\u00a0 artists from around the world, deals with topics such as \u201ccancer, chronic illness, disability, mental health, surgery, medicine and wellbeing\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/librarysearch.kent.ac.uk\/client\/en_GB\/kent\/search\/results?ln=en_GB&amp;ir=Both&amp;q=prescriptions+bolaki\">Bolaki &amp; Ciricaite, 2017<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Inclusive service design \u2013 developing our staff<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A new staff EDI caf\u00e9, digital ideas wall, and dedicated email, provide opportunities for Information Services staff to share best practice, ask questions, and highlight training.\u00a0 Some of the ideas raised have since formed part of the Information Services EDI Action Plan 2019-2020.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Amplifying underrepresented voices in Scholarly Communication<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/osc\/2019\/07\/04\/one-of-the-most-welcoming-sustainable-collaborative-and-inclusive-conferences\/\">Scholarly Communication Conference<\/a> set out to \u201c<em>feature underrepresented voices in Scholarly Communication<\/em>\u201c and was described by one delegate as \u201c<em>one of the most welcoming, sustainable, collaborative and inclusive conferences I have attended<\/em>\u201d,<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Tools to help your work and study<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/is\">Information Services<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/studentsupport\/\">Student Support and Wellbeing<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/uelt\">Unit for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching<\/a>\u00a0have launched a new online service for staff and students to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/tools\">find useful apps, software and online productivity tools<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Feedback<\/h3>\n<p>If you have any suggestions or feedback on our services please let us know <a href=\"mailto:library-enquiry@kent.ac.uk\">library-enquiry@kent.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Information Services Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) Group aims to make sure that our services are inclusive for all our staff and students.
