A good way to do this is to write a data management plan.<\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s a data management plan?<\/h2>\n<p>A data management plan is a document than only you can write that takes you through a series of questions and records the answers. It asks you to make decisions about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>what data you will create?<\/li>\n<li>where you will keep it during your thesis?<\/li>\n<li>how you will organise your data?<\/li>\n<li>how you will keep it safe?<\/li>\n<li>what data you will keep after your project<\/li>\n<li>where you will keep it?<\/li>\n<li>what data you will share and how?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How do I know what to write?<\/h2>\n<p>First have a look at our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/guides\/manage-your-research-data\">overview on research data management<\/a>. Then use our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/guides\/manage-your-research-data\/guidance-for-writing-your-plan\">step by step guidance<\/a> to help you write your plan.<\/p>\n<h2>Download one of our templates<\/h2>\n<p>You can use one of our University of Kent<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/guides\/manage-your-research-data\/write-your-plan\"> templates<\/a> if you wish. Choose one for a funder that relates most closely to your research area. For example, choose Economic and Social Research Council if you are researching a social science topic and Arts and Humanities Research Council if you are working in humanities disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>You can then email your draft data management plan to the research support team in the library <a href=\"mailto:researchsupport@kent.ac.uk\">researchsupport@kent.ac.uk<\/a> for further help and advice if you would like it.<\/p>\n<h2>Get ahead<\/h2>\n<p>If you get used to doing a data management plan now at this stage in your academic career, you will be one step ahead and well prepared for a future in research.
