{"id":14389,"date":"2019-10-15T14:45:12","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T13:45:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/?p=14389"},"modified":"2019-10-15T15:30:27","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T14:30:27","slug":"suppliers-and-external-contact-emails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/isnews\/suppliers-and-external-contact-emails\/","title":{"rendered":"Emails from suppliers and known contacts &#8211; be wary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Staff:<\/strong> if you get an email from a University of Kent supplier, external agent or a named contact that you usually work with, <strong>always follow the steps below<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Some of our <strong>known suppliers and external contacts are currently being impersonated<\/strong>, and the fraudulent emails we&#8217;re seeing can be very convincing. Business contact lists are being hacked to make fake emails look legitimate.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If there\u2019s an attached invoice or document that you weren\u2019t expecting, <strong>don\u2019t preview it or open it<\/strong>. Contact the supplier separately from the email to check legitimacy.<\/li>\n<li>If offered a link to sign into your account, <strong>don&#8217;t click the link<\/strong>. Go to their website using a web browser to sign in.<\/li>\n<li>If the email gives you their new banking details, <strong>phone a known contact<\/strong> to check legitimacy.<\/li>\n<li>Check the sender email address: double-click on it to see it in full.
