What going on in the Templeman Library – books, activities and displays during February
To celebrate the eighth LGBTQ+ History Month this February, the Templeman Library has been working with colleagues from the Kent Union and Student Support & Wellbeing to create a book club for students who want to feed their literary curiosity and discover new books and resources outside of their academic studies. There is an online reading list of titles for students to engage with and are also offering the opportunity for students to take forward a physical book group if there is interest.
The theme this year is poetry, prose and plays. Check out the list of titles available in the Templeman and Drill Hall Libraries or come and browse our book display in the Library Café.
There are also national initiatives promoting LGBTQ+ via the following online spaces:
- OUTing the past – the International Festivals of Lesbian Gay Bisexual & Trans History is an international celebration that comprises of events throughout the year and around the world, and a conference and gathering for academics and activists once a year in February.
- Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans + History Month – promoting the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT+”) people, their history, lives and their experiences in the curriculum and culture of educational and other institutions, and the wider community.
If you want to join the conversation online, use #UniKentBookClub and get in touch if you want to set up a book group, as we are happy to support.
if there are any titles that you think are missing from the list, please respond below with your suggestions.
