Inspec & Inspec Analytics: tools for engineering, computing & physics research

Inspec and Inspec Analytics from the Institution of Engineering and Technology, are specialised research tools that provide detailed insights into research trends and patterns across physics and engineering disciplines at both local and global levels. The granularity of the Inspec index makes it easy to analyse research output by organisation and/or specific subjects, allowing you to monitor research output over time, compare output between organisations, stay up to date with emerging trends, find collaboration opportunities and identify the most relevant  journals and conferences to publish your work.

The Inspec database includes over 19 million records from over 4,500 journals and 6 million+ conference items, relating to physics, astronomy, electrical and electronic engineering, communications, computer science, information technology, manufacturing and mechanical engineering, operations research, materials science, engineering mathematics, environmental science, geophysics, nanotechnology, biomedical technology and biophysics. Coverage is from 1896. Inspec also indexes preprints from arXiv.

Inspec Analytics is a research intelligence tool that uses Inspec’s renowned data to provide detailed insights on trends and patterns in global engineering and physics research. Monitor the research output of your institution and see how this ranks globally:

  • Compare your organisation to identify strengths and areas for growth
  • Identify potential collaborators from c.29,000 organisations
  • Explore global research trends for over 14,000 classifications

These tools are delivered at the University of Kent via Engineering Village and this video on quick search will help you to get started.
