Navigating the voluminous amount of online open access content in addition to the wealth of paid subscription e-resource content can be overwhelming for the end user. Access brokers aid in this journey by amending search results to include immediate links to available content within the search page (e.g., google scholar, PubMed).
Lean Library is an access broker browser extension that provide seamless access to paid subscriptions, open access and library material (including e-books). This promotes efficient use of e-resources as content is easily accessible within the search results page, saving end users time in finding the desired resource (“up to 3 minutes per search”)
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding has enabled Kent to pilot the Lean Library service for 1 year to gauge benefits, with a view to build a business case to seek continued funding for the service if it is found to be valuable.
There is a feedback form available for users to submit their opinions on the service (positive or negative) and this will be utilised in assessing the merits of the service at the end of the pilot.
More information on how to install, configure and use the Lean Library browser extension on your own device can be found on the Lean Library guides page.
