IT Service updates – Monday 21 March

12.40 Monday 21 March – service update

Our teams have been working hard throughout the last few days to restore and monitor services and support affected students/staff.

We are confident that normal service has been resumed, with the exception of services affecting Jennison building and School of Engineering students/staff.

Wi-Fi has been restored in all campus buildings, teaching spaces (with the exception of Jennison Building) and student accommodation.

Wired connectivity is restored in all student accommodation on campus.

Wi-Fi in outside spaces is now back.

17:00 Friday 18 March – service update

Thank you for your patience as we have continued our work to bring our systems back online. Here’s where things currently stand:

Wi-Fi and networks

Wi-Fi eduroam should be restored in all campus buildings and in campus accommodation shortly. There may be brief periods of disruption over the weekend as things come back online, so do get in touch if you can’t get access.

It will remain unavailable outdoors throughout the weekend.

Wired connection and student PCs

Wired connection in campus accommodation has also been coming back online throughout the day and should be fully restored shortly. Student PCs are available across the campus.

Kennedy and Jennison buildings

Kennedy Building should be returned to normal usage this evening; Jennison remains out of use for the time being. Alternative arrangements are being put in place where necessary to support those affected by this, including rescheduling timetabled events.

Deadlines and mitigations

All deadlines for work due today (Friday 18 March), have been extended to Monday 21 March. For areas that have been particularly affected, separate extensions have been arranged – if this applies to you, you will have been contacted directly by your Division.

We will provide a further update on Monday morning when we should have a clearer picture following further work over the weekend. In the meantime, please bookmark this blog post and check @unikent on Twitter for any urgent updates.

14:45 Friday 18 March

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Wi-Fi will not to be available in campus buildings this afternoon. This also applies to Wi-Fi and the wired connections in campus accommodation. Some student PCs remain available.

Connected devices will continue to work, but no new devices are able to connect at present. We expect to have connections restored by approx. 17:00.

We will keep you updated as the work to restore services continues. Next scheduled update: 17:00.

11:45 Friday 18 March

Wi-Fi eduroam service

Wi-Fi (eduroam) is now restored in all buildings except dedicated accommodation blocks (Turing, Keynes accommodation, Park Wood, Tyler Court, Darwin Houses, Woolf accommodation, Becket). It also remains unavailable outdoors.

Work to restore the wired connection in campus accommodation is ongoing and it is slowly coming back online. We are confident that it will be fully restored during the day.

We will continue to review the situation and keep you updated.
