Block D, Floor 3 is closed until February 2024 for the duration of building works to renovate the Library roof.
This essential work will provide durable protection and secure the integrity of the building, as well as creating a more comfortable and sustainable study environment.

Impact of work
There will be no unauthorised access to D Block, Floor 3, including the silent study spaces, PC study room and study carrels. This area holds books and journals covering the following subject areas:
- C: Archaeology
- D: History
- U: Military Science
- V: Naval Science
- Z: Paleography
No hot water in D Block
Hot water will not be available in D Block for the duration of the building works, however facilities will continue to operate with cold water.
Hot water will remain available in Blocks A – C.

Login to LibrarySearch and search for the item you need. In the search results, all items located in D3 will display a purple D3 Retrieval Service button*. Click the button, check your contact details and item information before pressing the submit button to place your request.
*Top tip: if you can’t see the purple D3 Retrieval Service button next to your item listing please refresh your screen (clear your cache): hold down your devices’ ‘Ctrl’ key together with the ‘F5’ key. Alternatively you can use a different browser to place your request.
We will carry out book retrieval requests four times per day during term-time (last daily retrieval time 16:00), and we’ll email you to let you know when your book is available for collection from the Reservations shelving in the Welcome Hall.
Please note: we don’t currently operate a book retrieval service on Sundays. Any requests received on a Sunday will be carried out on the following Monday. The book retrieval service will operate seven days a week during term time.
For urgent requests, speak to our Welcome Desk staff in the first instance and we will make every effort to speed up the retrieval of your item.

Working with our librarians and academic staff we have created a browsable area in Block B, Floor 3 (just down the corridor from D3), where you can browse and borrow high demand items from your History and Archaeology reading lists.

Study spaces in the Templeman Library
We have a wide range of alternative study spaces in the Templeman Library, and study hubs across campus.
Noise and disruption
At times, there will be some noise disruption in Block D and this may impact Block C as well. It will be quieter in Blocks A and B, and later in the day when the building work has finished for the day.
We will provide as much advance notice as possible about the impact of this work. Please check local signage for alternative study and work locations.
