The reception on Friday (21 June) was attended by Mr Rafe Courage, Deputy Consul-General, hosted by Professor Alex Hughes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and follows a successful event held at Pera House, Istanbul in June last year.<br \/>\nThose attending the event included representatives from Kent\u2019s partner universities Bo\u011fazi\u00e7i University and Bah\u00e7e\u015fehir University.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Alex Hughes said: \u2018As part of our Internationalisation Strategy, the University of Kent has a strong commitment to enabling all students to spend a period of time overseas.<br \/>\nWe have enjoyed fruitful links with universities in Turkey for a number of years within the Erasmus scheme and we hope now to build further on our university partnerships here.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Among the senior staff attending the reception were: Dr Dan Lloyd, School of Biosciences; Dr Dawn Lyon, School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research; Dr Peter Nicholls, Deputy Head of Biosciences; Professor Richard Sakwa, Head of School of Politics and International Relations; Dr Joachim Stoeber, Head of the School of Psychology; Professor Peter Stanfield, Head of the School of Arts; Professor Donna Landry, Director of Research, School of English; and Joanne Ganderton-Smith, Director of International Development.<\/p>\n<p>The University has welcomed Turkish students for many years and Turkey plays an important part in the University\u2019s internationalisation activities.<br \/>\nShortly celebrating 50 years of its foundation, the University has become a research-intensive university of significant standing and a global community too. As the UK\u2019s \u2018European University\u2019, with students coming to Kent from over 140 countries, the University has many different nationalities and cultures represented in its staff and student body. Kent has centres or programmes in Brussels, Paris, Rome and Athens, and enjoys a host of international links and relationships.<\/p>\n<p>There is much to celebrate as the University goes from strength to strength, with outstanding results in a range of disciplines in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, and top-20 performance in the Guardian University Guide.
