{"id":64,"date":"2012-10-01T10:16:42","date_gmt":"2012-10-01T09:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/internationalpartnerships-news\/?p=64"},"modified":"2016-06-14T10:17:10","modified_gmt":"2016-06-14T09:17:10","slug":"university-wins-prestigious-european-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/internationalpartnerships-news\/2012\/10\/01\/university-wins-prestigious-european-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"University wins prestigious European Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University has had its teaching and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/research\">research<\/a>\u00a0quality recognised with two prestigious funding awards from the European Commission (EC).<\/p>\n<p>The University&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/brussels\/BSIS\/index.html\">Brussels School of International Studies<\/a>\u00a0(BSIS) has been awarded funding under the EC&#8217;s Jean Monnet Programme to establish a Jean Monnet Chair. It has also received a European Module grant from the same programme to fund the development of a new law teaching module on EU Migration Law.<\/p>\n<p>BSIS senior lecturer in International Relations Dr Tom Casier has received the Jean Monnet Chair. The successful proposal included the development of two new\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/brussels\/BSIS\/programmes\/taught\/index.html\">MA courses<\/a>\u00a0as well as a training course on European Studies methodology.<\/p>\n<p>The new law module will deliver teaching in EU migration law in the context of a legal aid clinic, which enables students to help provide legal assistance to real clients.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Roger Vickerman, Dean of BSIS, said: &#8216;Both awards will enhance excellence in teaching at BSIS and strengthen its role as a platform for debate and reflection between different communities: policy-makers, researchers and civil society.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The Jean Monnet programme is financed by the European Commission&#8217;s Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency, and aims to stimulate teaching, research and reflection in the field of European integration studies in higher education institutions, both within and outside the EC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University has had its teaching and\u00a0research\u00a0quality recognised with two prestigious funding awards from the European Commission (EC).
