{"id":304,"date":"2016-11-14T15:55:23","date_gmt":"2016-11-14T15:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/internationalpartnerships-news\/?p=304"},"modified":"2016-11-14T15:55:23","modified_gmt":"2016-11-14T15:55:23","slug":"diwali-ball-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/internationalpartnerships-news\/2016\/11\/14\/diwali-ball-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Diwali Ball 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">&#8220;Amazing food, brilliant entertainment and plenty of sparkling candles made the Hindu Society\u2019s first ever Diwali Ball one to remember!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">On <strong>Saturday 12<\/strong><\/span><strong><sup><span style=\"font-size: small\">th<\/span><\/sup><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"><strong> November <\/strong>the Hindu Society hosted their first Diwali Ball in Darwin Conference Suite &#8211; the first of many more to come. Guests dressed in traditional sarees and\u00a0formal suits and were greeted\u00a0to a selection of\u00a0light snacks upon arrival, such as Poppadoms and Chutneys.\u00a0The President of the Hindu Society Parag Patel gave a short speech welcoming guests and introducing the night&#8217;s events. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Soon after the Indian canap\u00e9 starters\u00a0were served, guests were indulging in the main course whilst watching UKC Belly Dance perform their dance act. The meal concluded with a delicious dessert, which\u00a0guests enjoyed as the DJ played some instrumentals in the background. The final act of the night was a dance piece performed by Kent Dance\u2019s Bollywood group, which then continued with the dance floor being opened for all guests to dance the night away with the help of our amazing DJ. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">The festival of Diwali symbolises the accomplishment of good over evil in many respects, most commonly signifying the return of Lord Ram and his wife Sita after 14 years of exile.
