Erasmus+ funding has been awarded to\u00a0<\/span>the University of\u00a0<\/span>Kent<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>lead a project supporting\u00a0<\/span>higher education reform<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in Georgia<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0Kent<\/span>\u00a0will work with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Ilia State University<\/span>\u00a0(ISU)<\/span>, which is based<\/span>\u00a0in Georgia\u2019s capital<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>b<\/span>i<\/span>lisi<\/span>\u00a0to support initiatives\u00a0<\/span>focused<\/span>\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>curriculum modernisation and internationalisation<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kent\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>School of English<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>developed a relationship with ISU through\u00a0<\/span>research in the field of c<\/span>omparative literature. This connection developed\u00a0<\/span>into\u00a0<\/span>wider\u00a0<\/span>collaboration\u00a0<\/span>assess<\/span>ing<\/span>\u00a0the nature and durability of the effects of\u00a0<\/span>higher educational<\/span>\u00a0reforms in society<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Professor Bela\u00a0<\/span>Tsipuria<\/span>\u00a0who was formerly the Georgian Deputy Minister of Education and Science<\/span>, leads the project on ISU\u2019s side.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Funding will also support students from Georgia to study for a term at Kent<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he project reinforces Kent\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>links in a key region for research collaboration<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as well as its\u00a0<\/span>engagement with the European Higher Education Area.<\/span>\u00a0Furthermore<\/span>, the Erasmus+ project demonstrates the importance of the humanities in\u00a0<\/span>the evaluation of societal reforms.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Professor David Ayers,\u00a0<\/span>Professor of Modernism and Critical Theory in the School of English and\u00a0<\/span>Kent\u2019s academic lead for the project<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>shares his views on the partnership:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have strong ties with Ilia State\u00a0<\/span><\/i>University<\/span><\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><\/i>I am delighted that\u00a0<\/span><\/i>we have been able to create these opportunities for student and staff exchanges.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>ISU is now the leading university of Georgia and is going through a period of dynamic growth<\/span><\/i>, so this is an ideal moment for this collaboration which will\u00a0<\/span><\/i>bring new perspectives to both institutions, especially in the areas of literary studies and the arts and humanities<\/span><\/i>\u00a0more<\/span><\/i>\u00a0generally.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
