{"id":1596,"date":"2020-11-17T23:36:32","date_gmt":"2020-11-17T23:36:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/internationalpartnerships-news\/?p=1596"},"modified":"2021-03-30T12:19:23","modified_gmt":"2021-03-30T11:19:23","slug":"global-learning-online-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/internationalpartnerships-news\/2020\/11\/17\/global-learning-online-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Learning Online Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year has seen Kent\u2019s students embracing the various online, <strong>virtual exchange<\/strong> opportunities that have been on offer.<\/p>\n<p>As the Covid-19 pandemic has prevented many traditional in-person study opportunities, many students have had to adapt to studying online with our partner institutions as part of their Year Abroad.\u00a0 In addition, over 100 students have opted to take part in opportunities provided by our partner universities and organisations as an <strong>extra-curricular activity<\/strong>, alongside their existing studies at Kent.<\/p>\n<p>Exciting virtual exchange courses include exploring climate change, identity and communication in the digital world, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/modern-languages-linguistics\/news\/13522\/university-of-kents-language-centre-joins-glo-programme-with-tamagawa-university-in-japan\">Japanese<\/a>, common reading experiences and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/global\/education#glo\">more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>My first impression was that it was a safe space to be very open and discuss all sorts of topics. I found it remarkable how honest everybody was about their own experiences and accepting they were of individual and cultural differences\u2026I look forward to the other weekly sessions, it was a refreshing and eye-opening discussion.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Samantha Archer, English &amp; French Law, Connect Express<\/p>\n<p>All students that engage in these activities earn a certificate and transcript where applicable, are awarded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/\">Employability Points<\/a> and have recognition on their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/csao\/graduates\/hear.html\">Higher Education Achievement Report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Virtual exchange allows students to engage in <strong>meaningful, cross-cultural experiences<\/strong> as part of their education.\u00a0 It can broaden access to international learning for every student, regardless of their circumstances, background or ability.\u00a0 These projects provide the framework for students to develop their <strong>cross-cultural attitudes, skills<\/strong>, and <strong>communication<\/strong> in addition to improving their <strong>digital literacy skills<\/strong> valued by employers.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about GLO, please visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/global\/education#glo\">website<\/a> or contact <a href=\"mailto:internationalpartnerships@kent.ac.uk\">internationalpartnerships@kent.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year has seen Kent\u2019s students embracing the various online, virtual exchange opportunities that have been on offer.
