The University of Kent\u2019s annual Europe Day celebrations will take place this year on Wednesday 9th April, 11.00 \u2013 16.00 in the Gulbenkian, Canterbury Campus.<\/p>\n
A range of activities is planned including staff and student debates, a student photo competition, information fair, film, food, live music, sports, cultural performances, language learning, and more.<\/p>\n
The event is being organised by International Development and the Global Europe Centre with contributions from a range of Kent departments including Research Services, the Centre for English and World Languages, Kent Sport, the Careers and Employability Service, University of Kent Centres at Brussels, Paris, Athens and Rome.<\/p>\n
What is Europe Day? <\/strong><\/p>\n Europe Day, is the anniversary of the ‘Schuman declaration’. Speaking in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman (the French foreign minister) proposed a new form of political cooperation for Europe, which would make war between Europe\u2019s nations unthinkable.<\/p>\n Schuman\u2019s proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union and 9th May is now celebrated as a key moment in the creation of the EU.
