Forging even closer links with the University of Kent’s European partners and universities further afield was on the agenda of the recent gathering of members of the SGroup European Universities Network, meeting at the University of Trieste, Italy. Kent, who has been a member of the SGroup since 2011, plays an active role in the Network, and is delighted to be able strengthen its position as the UK’s European university through collaborative projects with fellow members.
The SGroup European Universities Network is formed of over 30 full member institutions from 15 European countries.
Encouraging and supporting collaboration between universities to give more students opportunities to gain an international experience is at the heart of the Network’s activity. Supporting virtual mobility was an area of discussion at the meeting in Trieste, with Kent sharing its experience of running the Global Learning Online (GLO) programme. Opportunities that have arisen recently from network membership included short-term placements at the University of Berkeley, California for PhD students, and joint summer schools. A number of Erasmus exchanges have also been developed as a result of close links between member institutions.
