Have you heard about the University of Kent’s new Global Learning Online (GLO) initiative? This exciting new platform introduces students at Kent and other international institutions to a world of cross-cultural academic learning opportunities, through the medium of the internet and other ICT.
Small student teams join together to create a project that requires a skilful presentation displaying their findings at the end. So far, it has proved to be a successful additional opportunity to existing options for students taking part in exchange agreements overseas; often resulting in new friendships and partnerships across the globe.
The University of Kent students have spoken about the benefits of taking part in GLO:
‘I found this experience very useful to understand certain topics from a different perspective. Moreover, we get to know new approaches and solutions to the same problems. I found the experience mind-opening.’ – Laura Prats Cardona ¦ Politics and International Relations with a Language
‘I found it interesting to understand the different struggles that refugees and asylum seekers face as well as the different perceptions from students in foreign countries such as Hong Kong and their outlook on the refugee problem. It was enjoyable to get to know the Hong Kong Students as well as taking part in an event which I had not done before at the University.’ – Tobias Parkinson ¦ History (with an approved year abroad)
An upcoming GLO opportunity includes another joint project with Hong Kong; identifying ways in which migration has impacted on local cities and the environment, considering both cultural and economic consequences and the different ways in which people are affected. At the University of Kent, we are confident that this will prove to be another huge success!
