Diwali Ball 2016

“Amazing food, brilliant entertainment and plenty of sparkling candles made the Hindu Society’s first ever Diwali Ball one to remember!

On Saturday 12th November the Hindu Society hosted their first Diwali Ball in Darwin Conference Suite – the first of many more to come. Guests dressed in traditional sarees and formal suits and were greeted to a selection of light snacks upon arrival, such as Poppadoms and Chutneys. The President of the Hindu Society Parag Patel gave a short speech welcoming guests and introducing the night’s events.

Soon after the Indian canapé starters were served, guests were indulging in the main course whilst watching UKC Belly Dance perform their dance act. The meal concluded with a delicious dessert, which guests enjoyed as the DJ played some instrumentals in the background. The final act of the night was a dance piece performed by Kent Dance’s Bollywood group, which then continued with the dance floor being opened for all guests to dance the night away with the help of our amazing DJ.

The festival of Diwali symbolises the accomplishment of good over evil in many respects, most commonly signifying the return of Lord Ram and his wife Sita after 14 years of exile. However, people in different parts of India celebrate it for different reasons, but they all clearly mark the win of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.

The UKC Hindu Society would like to thank International Partnerships for funding the event and for all the support they provided to make the night as successful as it was.”
