The University of Kent is delighted to mark the development of a formal partnership with Malaysia’s highest ranked HE institution*, the University of Malaya (UM). The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Kent and the University of Malaya will support research collaboration, student focused activity, staff mobility and enterprise links between the two institutions. The University of Malaya, which is based in Kuala Lumpur, enjoys a very strong reputation as a premier research institution. Kent Business School, Kent’s School of Economics and the School of Biosciences have existing research links with the University, and the Memorandum of Understanding provides a framework to deepen these links and widen opportunities to enhance the University’s research and enterprise reach.
The Memorandum of Understanding was formally handed to Kent’s Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor David Nightingale in the presence of the Malaysia’s Ministry of Education at the NAFSA international conference at the beginning of June 2016.
Following initial high level meetings in Malaysia to set out areas of collaboration that would be mutually beneficial for both institutions, Professor Shaliza Ibrahim, Associate Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) from UM visited Kent on 31st May 2016, hosted by Dean for Europe Professor Roger Vickerman. She met with Dr Juliette Pattinson, Head of the School of History and her colleague Professor Gaynor Johnson as well as colleagues within Development Office, Research Services, Kent Innovation and Enterprise and the Centre for Philanthropy. The next step in the development of the partnership will involve a series of guest lectures given by both Kent and UM, and a focus on how enterprise links can be formed.
