Ghent strategic partnership continues to flourish

On Thursday 3rd May the University of Kent had the pleasure of receiving a delegation from Ghent University, Belgium, one of our strategic partners with whom we are involved in a range of collaborative activities across a number of Kent academic schools.

The delegation was hosted by Professor Alex Hughes, Pro Vice Chancellor External, and joined by Professor Roger Vickerman, Professor Diane Houston, Dr Ana de Medeiros and International Development staff.

Kent and Ghent have enjoyed research links, staff and student exchange partnerships for a number of years and these links have been strengthened and deepened via annual meetings (alternating between Ghent and Kent) following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2010.

The fruits of this strategic partnership include the LiSUM and Lotus Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Partnerships programmes, a range of staff and student exchanges in a number of subject areas, and collaboration in the area of postgraduate research training. More recently, a joint application for an MA in the Metaphysics, Philosophy and History of Sciences (MEPHISCO) has been submitted for funding from the prestigious Erasmus Mundus programme.

This latest meeting resulted in agreements to develop further opportunities in PG research training, co-supervision of PhDs, and expansion of staff and student exchange.
