{"id":89,"date":"2022-02-23T09:01:05","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T09:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/international\/?p=89"},"modified":"2022-04-06T15:08:47","modified_gmt":"2022-04-06T14:08:47","slug":"nobel-prize-winner-abdulrazak-gurnah-in-conversation-at-the-gulbenkian-arts-centre-24-feb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/international\/2022\/02\/23\/nobel-prize-winner-abdulrazak-gurnah-in-conversation-at-the-gulbenkian-arts-centre-24-feb\/","title":{"rendered":"Nobel prize winner Abdulrazak Gurnah in conversation at the Gulbenkian Arts Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nobel Laureate and Kent Professor Emeritus of English and Postcolonial Literatures Abdulrazak Gurnah will reflect on his life and writing during what promises to be a very special In Conversation event at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thegulbenkian.co.uk\/?start_date=&amp;end_date=\">Gulbenkian Arts Centre<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday 24 February (7.30 \u2013 9pm).<\/p>\n<p>Professor Gurnah was born in Tanzania and studied his PhD at Kent in 1982 and until recently he was Professor of English and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/225\/postcolonial-studies\">Postcolonial Literatures<\/a>\u00a0at the School of English. During the live stream he will reflect on his life and writing and address topics such as\u00a0the motivations for his work, and how narrative can be shaped by migration, forced change, and historical injury. He will also be taking questions from budding writers as well as sharing his personal reflections on winning the 2021 Nobel prize and his time at Kent.<\/p>\n<p>The event, which is being supported by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishcouncil.org\/\">British Council<\/a>, sold out in record time but will be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tN7IfgNIe0g\">livestreamed free on the University\u2019s Youtube channel<\/a>.
