{"id":207,"date":"2021-02-15T11:25:35","date_gmt":"2021-02-15T11:25:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/institute-cultural-creative-industries-news\/?p=207"},"modified":"2021-02-15T11:30:31","modified_gmt":"2021-02-15T11:30:31","slug":"new-research-into-video-games-and-player-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/institute-cultural-creative-industries-news\/2021\/02\/15\/new-research-into-video-games-and-player-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"New Research into Video Games and Player Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/history\/people\/1478\/wills-john\">Dr John Wills<\/a> from ICCI and Director of the School of History&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/american-studies\">Centre for American Studies<\/a>,\u00a0is currently working on a new book, the first to tackle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rockstargames.com\">Rockstar Game<\/a>\u2019s hugely successful video game franchise Red Dead Redemption.<\/p>\n<p>Contracted with the University of Oklahoma Press, and set for release in early 2022, Red Dead Redemption: History, Myth, and Violence in the Video Game West is set to explore a range of issues pertaining to the popular Western-themed video game series, as well as video game industry as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Rockstar released Red Dead Redemption 2, an open world adventure exploring life on the American frontier, to huge artistic and commercial acclaim. The New York Times described the title as\u201c true art\u201d while for Forbes magazine, the game represented \u201can epic masterpiece.\u201d Red Dead Redemption 2 has now sold in excess of 35 million copies worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>John is working on the title with fellow Game Studies scholar Esther Wright, an expert on Rockstar based at Cardiff University.
