Kent Union<\/a> has launched a fantastic programme of events for Black History Month, taking place across the university over the course of the month, which include film screenings from The Gulbenkian<\/a>, live online discussions, and a talk from keynote speaker Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies. The University is also hosting a number of exhibitions, including a #BlackLivesMatter Kent Student Protests exhibition to showcase student and staff involvement in the BLM protests over the past few months here in Canterbury, as well as an exhibition about African women in healthcare in tribute to the NHS which has been working extra hard to get us through the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Being Black in the World of Tech \u2013 Monday 5th October at 18:00<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ashleigh Ainsley is a former Google employee and now the co-founder of Colorintech, a non-profit aiming to improve access, awareness and opportunities for ethnic minorities to enter the tech industry. He will be sharing his experiences during this talk.<\/p>\n

Am I Enough? \u2013 Wednesday 14th October 14:00<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wellbeing coach, Toluwa Oyeleye, will be hosting an online webinar to explore themes of emotional resilience, comparison with others, and running your own race.<\/p>\n

University of Kent Annual Race Equality Lecture \u2013 Thursday 22nd October at 17:00<\/strong><\/p>\n

Professor Sir Hilary Beckles (VC of the University of the West Indies) will be speaking at this event.<\/p>\n

There will a screening of this iconic film at The Gulbenkian followed by a panel discussion.<\/p>\n

Rocks<\/a> \u2013 Thursday 22nd October at 19:00<\/strong><\/p>\n

Head down to the Canterbury campus for a screening of this film which will be followed by a panel discussion.<\/p>\n

Miss Juneteenth<\/a> \u2013 Thursday 29th October at 19:00<\/strong><\/p>\n

This powerful film will be screened at The Gulbenkian and followed by a panel discussion.<\/p>\n

African Women and the British Health Service \u2013 Monday 12th October\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This exhibition showcases the work women of African heritage contributed to the NHS.<\/p>\n

Kent Black Lives Matter: Student Protests Exhibition \u2013 Monday 12th October<\/strong><\/p>\n

This photographic exhibition is a visual reminder of when students at the University of Kent campus joined together to support the Black Lives Matter anti-racist protests.<\/p>\n
