Soriya Labovitch, MA Curating student in the School of Arts, was awarded a scholarship to attend the 2022 Birth Rites Collection Summer School.
Birth Rites Collection Summer School is a unique programme of lectures, workshops, seminars and one-to-one tutorials designed to introduce participants to the collection and facilitate a dialogue between you, your practice and the artworks.

Since the collection is now hosted at the University of Kent, Birth Rites offered three bursaries to University students and/or staff to attend the full September 2022 programme.
Soriya told us that the topic of birth is hardly ever talked about or discussed in her culture. She believes it’s a major issue relating to life which should be embraced and celebrated, yet, it remains a sensitive topic, even within the family circle.
