Performing International Plays – Free online resource for schools

Supporting Teachers to Diversify the Curriculum

A new online platform showcasing international drama has been launched with the aim of diversifying the school curriculum.

Performing International Plays is a not-for-profit, open access website which aims to empower and support teachers in their effort to diversify the curriculum and make sure the content they deliver speaks to and represents all students in our diverse classrooms.

The new website features 20 plays in 15 languages – with English translations – from across six continents.

The project is led by Dr Margherita Laera from the School of Arts, as part of her work advocating for more international theatre and drama in translation to be studied in schools, and is funded by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council.

Other resources include video excerpts of the plays being performed, academic essays contextualising the plays, educational packs with classroom exercises, author notes and behind-the-scenes videos.
