Jane Duncan, President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), opened the University’s School of Architecture graduate show at the Canterbury campus on Friday 16 June.
After her opening remarks she was joined by Professor Don Gray, Head of Kent School of Architecture (KSA), to award the traditional student prizes.
To mark the twelfth year of KSA’s end-of-year exhibitions, the 2017 launch event involved the local community and former students across a 12 hour programme.
The day began with pupils from local secondary schools taking part in three workshops entitled Design a Beach Hut, Tower in an Hour and Lego hosted by lecturer Rebecca Hobbs, tutor Patrick Crouch and MArch Pedagogy student Esther Brown.
There was also an opportunity for KSA alumni to meet the 2017 graduates and employers at a networking event. Many alumni have gone on to work with practices such as Grimshaw Architects, Farrells, HLM Architects, HOK, Jestico + Whiles, and Herzog & De Meuron.
Curated and designed by the Kent Architectural Student Association (KASA), the show is free and open to the public between 19 and 23 June, from 10.00 to 17.00 in the Marlowe building. The exhibition will include work from the BA (Hons) Architecture course, MArch programme and postgraduate courses.
KSA is one of the UK’s leading architecture schools, ranked 7th in The Guardian University Guide 2017 and 7th for graduate prospects in The Complete University Guide 2017.
