The competition is designed to engage and develop students’ employability and enterprise skills so that they are given a head start in their careers.
This unique opportunity enables students to improve knowledge of the business world, put theory into practice and develop team-working, leadership and employability skills by participating in a team-based competitive challenge.
On the 9th March 2016 the Hub for Innovation and Enterpriseteam took two groups of students to compete in the IBM Universities Business Challenge Semi-Final, held at Regents University in London.
The two teams that successfully made it to the semi-finals along with 10 other teams out of an initial 300 were made up by:
- Shanell Stephany Grandez Vitaliano (team captain) studying International Business at Kent Business School
- Aneta Klukova studying English and French Law at Kent Law School
- Adrian Tomasz Pierzak studying Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) with a Year in Industry at School of Computing
- Karolina Sowinska studying Financial Economics at School of Economics
- Eman Salem studying Law and Accounting & Finance at Kent Law School
- Sergey Ovchinnik (team captain) studying Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) with a Year in Industry at School of Computing
- Diamantina Stavrianou studying Politics and International Relations at School of Politics and International Relations
- Lai Shun Chan studying Business and Management with a Year in Industry at Kent Business School Medway
- Louise Anokye studying Economics at School of Economics
- John-Henry Cooper studying Business and Management with a Year in Industry at Kent Business School Medway
On the 4th of March 2015 the Student Enterprise Team took a group of students to compete in the Universities Business Challenge, held at Regents University in London.
The team compiled of: Ajith Karakkattillom Naray, 3rd year Classical & Archaeological Studies and History student; Kamel Diab, 1st year Law student; Lewis Tisdall, 1st year Business Administration with a Year in Industry student; Sarah Jane Lowe, 2nd year Computing and Philosophy student and Antonis Charalamabous, 3rd year Computer Systems Engineering with a Year in Industry student who successfully made in to the semi-finals along with 70 other teams out of an initial 300.
This unique opportunity enables students to improve knowledge of the business world, put theory into practice and develop team-working, leadership and employability skills by participating in a team-based competitive challenge. The competition is not just for Business Studies students and encourages participants across faculties and disciplines.
There were 4 rounds of the competition, each challenging a different set of skills for the team. There were representative from IMB, Campus to Corporate and the RSA that delivered talks to the students about potential careers and self-employment prospects.
After a full day of tasks and challenges the team were not fortunate enough to win top points for all activities, but they came within the top 20 of 300 teams who participated.
