{"id":1014,"date":"2026-07-28T15:25:28","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T14:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/hoards\/?p=1014"},"modified":"2026-07-28T15:26:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T14:26:14","slug":"archaeology-day-2026-at-the-great-north-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/hoards\/2026\/07\/28\/archaeology-day-2026-at-the-great-north-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"Archaeology Day 2026 at the Great North Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, Kelly and James visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northeastmuseums.org.uk\/greatnorthmuseum\">Great North Museum: Hancock<\/a> in Newcastle to deliver an outreach activity as part of the museum&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northeastmuseums.org.uk\/greatnorthmuseum\/whats-on\/archaeology-day-2024\">Archaeology Day<\/a>.\u00a0Kelly and James discussed the project with the public and brought along various replicas of late roman objects including pots, spoons, coins and a shoe!<\/p>\n<p>There was also a range of family friendly activities including a coin-identification activity, hoard building activity and younger visitors were encouraged to have a go at writing a very short story about a late Roman hoard based on what they learnt. Here are a couple of the stories they came up with:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>In my treasure pot I would put a wedding ring and coins made out of gold, rings with gems and a spoon for eating soup and for drinking. I think I would be a rich Roman if I had all of that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Izzy Jayne, 5 years old<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Did you know that Romans used to bury their secret treasure? If I was a Roman, I would be very lucky and bury items like money (coins), rings and my rare stuff.
