In this episode, BBC History Extra write, &#8216;Karen Jones responds to popular searches and listener questions about the mass movement of settlers into the American west, from the hardships of homesteading and the violence of frontier life to Hollywood\u2019s obsession with the grizzled gunslinger.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Karen Jones is an enthusiastic supporter of environmental history, landscape history and animal studies. Professor Jones will also be taking part in the School of History&#8217;s upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/events\/event\/46592\/school-of-history-virtual-applicant-event-1\">Virtual Applicant Event<\/a> on Thursday 19 November from 19.00 &#8211; 20.00 GMT.<\/p>\n<p>This event is one of three virtual applicant events this Autumn, providing the opportunity to meet the community, and find out more about the curriculum, our world-leading research, and studying in historic Canterbury.
