Dr Andrew Cohen invited to mentor at the Social History of the Global South: New Voices from the Southern Africa

Dr Andrew Cohen, a Reader in the School of History, was an invited mentor at the Social History of the Global South: New Voices from the Southern Africa which was held between 12-15 February 2023 at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa.

The workshop, funded by the British Academy and organised by Dr Kate Law (University of Nottingham) and Professor Phimister (University of the Free State) took fifteen PhD students and early career students from around the southern African region and placed them with individual mentors to work with them on refining draft articles which they aim to submit to high-ranking international journals. Dr Cohen, who has widely published on the region, and teaches two modules on aspects of southern African history at Kent, said

I am immensely proud of being able to play a small part in helping so many southern African scholars with exceptional talent realise their potential, and I have no doubt that my students at Kent will enjoy reading their work in my modules in the future
