Scholarly journals take less time to publish than books, so they&#8217;re often a good way to identify the latest thinking on a topic.<\/p>\n<p>There are several ways that you might find a journal article,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/student.kent.ac.uk\/studies\/find-and-use-journals\">our journals guide<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0shows each of these so you can decide what suits you best.<\/p>\n<p>If you are conducting a literature review for a significant piece of research then you will probably want to\u00a0use databases and bibliographies to search for multiple journal articles at once. Below is a list of suggested databases for you to use.<\/p>\n<h2>Journal databases with a history topic focus<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/chain.kent.ac.uk\/login?url=http:\/\/search.ebscohost.com\/login.aspx?authtype=cookie,ip,uid&amp;profile=ehost&amp;defaultdb=hia\">Historical Abstracts<\/a>\u00a0(Full-text coverage of international history from 1450-) Please note American history is not included but instead covered by <a href=\"http:\/\/chain.kent.ac.uk\/login?url=http:\/\/search.ebscohost.com\/login.aspx?authtype=ip&amp;profile=ehost&amp;defaultdb=ahl\">America: History and Life<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/chain.kent.ac.uk\/login?url=http:\/\/apps.brepolis.net\/LTool\/Entrance.aspx?w=19\">Bibliography of British and Irish History<\/a>\u00a0(coverage of British and Irish history from 55BC-)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/chain.kent.ac.uk\/login?url=http:\/\/apps.brepolis.net\/LTool\/Entrance.aspx?w=5\">International Medieval Bibliography<\/a>\u00a0(coverage of the period 450-1500)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/chain.kent.ac.uk\/login?url=http:\/\/search.ebscohost.com\/login.aspx?authtype=ip&amp;profile=ehost&amp;defaultdb=ahl\">America: History and Life<\/a> (coverage of American topics from pre-history onwards)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/library-it\/your-digital-library\/digital-resources-directory\/244\/political-science-database\">Political science database<\/a> provides access to hundreds of leading political science, public policy, and international relations journals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>More generalist databases with good coverage of history topics<\/h2>\n<p>These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/library-it\/your-digital-library\/digital-resources-directory\/158\/jstor\">JSTOR<\/a> provides access to journals, book and primary sources including archives of many small publishers and independent journals. Please note that JSTOR often holds only older journal issues and that newer materials will be available through other databases.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/chain.kent.ac.uk\/login?url=http:\/\/www.webofknowledge.com\/\">Web of Science<\/a>\u00a0includes 200 core history titles<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/zetoc.jisc.ac.uk\/\">Zetoc<\/a>\u00a0gives access to over 36,000 journals and more than 59 million article citations<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/chain.kent.ac.uk\/login?url=https:\/\/journalarchives.jisc.ac.uk\">Journal Archives<\/a>\u00a0includes titles especially relevant for History of Science, but also has good general coverage<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/chain.kent.ac.uk\/login?url=http:\/\/search.proquest.com\/pao?accountid=7408\">Periodicals Archive Online<\/a>\u00a0contains over 700 humanities journals comprising more than 3 million articles and 15 million article pages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Browsing Journals<\/h2>\n<p>You might also find it useful to browse the journal series relevant to a place, subject or period.<\/p>\n<p>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/browzine.com\/libraries\/2919\/subjects\">BrowZine<\/a> to select or search for a specific historical topic i.e Medical History.<\/p>\n<p>You can then browse through articles and even set up an alert for new issues if this is an area you are tracking in your research.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Use journal articles when you need original research on a specific topic from a reliable source.
