The English Heritage team at Walmer Castle are interested in setting up a Community Access Advisory Group to support a new project called ‘Rediscovering the Pleasure Grounds.’ They are looking for individuals who have mobility, learning, or sensory impairments to be involved to ensure that the adaptations, activities, intern and volunteering opportunities that will come out of this project are accessible to everyone. If you would be interested in joining this group, please get in touch with Dr Alix Slater at alix@alixslater.com.

Walmer Castle, an English Heritage property in Deal, are seeking to form a Community Access Advisory Group. The purpose of the group is to obtain feedback on an exciting project called ‘Rediscovering the Pleasure Grounds’ which will start in 2018 (subject to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund). The team has been working with an access advisor during the development of the plans to restore the gardens but English Heritage would also like to create their own Community Access Advisory Group.

KAD and Dover District Disability Association are already part of the group but we would also like individuals who have mobility, learning or sensory impairments to be involved to ensure that the adaptations, activities, intern and volunteering opportunities meet the needs of a broad range of people in the community. We are contacting you as we thought this might be an interesting opportunity for one of the University’s students to be part of such a group.

The first meeting is planned for 11am to 2.30pm on Thursday 12th October 2017 at Walmer Castle and we anticipate them happening every few months during the project.  It will be informal, Mark Brent, the Head Gardener will give a tour of the gardens, followed by lunch and a discussion around how the project can meet the needs of visitors. English Heritage will be able to reimburse out of pocket travel expenses and additional assistance should participants require it and carers to accompany individuals.

We look forward to hearing from you. I can be contacted via alix@alixslater.com if you are interested in taking part.
