September 13th is World Sepsis Day

World Sepsis Day is an initiative by the Global Sepsis Alliance. The GSA is a non-profit charity organization with the mission to provide global leadership to reduce the worldwide burden of sepsis.

Sepsis is a very serious condition. It’s also known as blood poisoning. It is the immune systems over reaction to infection or injury. The immune system would normally fight infection but with sepsis the immune system is attacking itself causing damage to our organs.

You can find out more about what the symptoms are at https://sepsistrust.org/about/about-sepsis/ .Early diagnosis can be treated and minimise complications.

Every year on September 13th, countless events raising awareness of sepsis are organized all over the world. The events range from medical education, to information for lay people, sport activities, fundraising events like pink picnics, and much more. Due to COVID-19, this year’s WSD will be a little different. GSA are encouraging the moving of physical events to be online events.
