The Graduate and Researcher College (GRC) encourages colleagues to develop their research careers and informs and supports staff who research in their professional and career development. Highlights of work undertaken in 2021-22, in conjunction with central and Divisional colleagues and as part of Kent\u2019s commitment to the Researcher Development Concordat<\/a> and HR Excellence in Research Award (HRER)<\/a> accreditation, include the following:<\/p>\n

Concordat and HRER Award:<\/strong><\/p>\n

HR Excellence in Research Award (HRER) retained after Eight Year Review<\/a>, <\/strong>recognising Kent\u2019s continued commitment to support the development of our researchers at all career stages. Learn more and view our HRER plans and report<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Webinar held on \u2018Responding to the challenge of the Researcher Development Concordat at Kent\u2019<\/a>, which discussed Kent\u2019s response to the challenge of the Researcher Development Concordat<\/a>, including 10 days’ professional development pro rata per year for staff who research. Listen to the recording<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Researcher resources:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Central Researcher Induction (CRI) module<\/a> launched, providing useful and contextualised content for academic and research\u00a0staff,\u00a0and signposting guidance, support and resources available to them. Learn more and access the <\/em>CRI module<\/em><\/a> and accompanying \u2018<\/em>Useful links<\/em><\/a>\u2019 document.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dedicated section for academic and research staff<\/a> developed as part of the new\u00a0GRC KentNet site<\/a>. Features include details of training and development opportunities<\/a>, as well as\u00a0recordings of previous sessions<\/a>\u00a0available to view on demand. Explore this and other GRC content relevant to researchers<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Professional and career development:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Researcher Career Guidance<\/a> published with sections on career planning<\/a>, progression<\/a> and mobility<\/a> encourages colleagues to consider their next career steps. Learn more and access the content<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

‘Your professional and career development’ section included in the new CRI<\/a>\u00a0module<\/a> with sections on career planning and review, training frameworks and resources, and examples of how to use the 10 days of development pro-rata per year recommended for researchers.<\/p>\n

New P&CD opportunities launched for staff who research including the Summer Vacation Early Career Research Competition 2022<\/a>\u00a0for ECRs to support Black second-year undergraduates to gain research experience and\u00a0<\/em>the updated T&OD \u00a0\u2018<\/a>Horizons<\/a>\u2019 programme for researchers looking to enhance their people management skills and explore their management potential.<\/p>\n

Guidance and support:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Termly PDRA Network Catch-ups<\/a> organised signposting relevant information and support, and providing networking opportunities for PDRAs, RAs and Research Associates. View the slides from the session on \u201810 days and more \u2026\u2019<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

1:1 Coaching delivered to PDRAs, RAs and Research Associates supporting them as they plan their development as researchers.<\/p>\n

Wellbeing sessions<\/a> organised to support academic and research colleagues, and access to digital modules on \u2018Resilience\u2019 and \u2018Managing your Imposter\u2019 made available to researchers.<\/p>\n

Getting involved:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2018Getting involved\u2018 section included in the new CRI module<\/a>\u00a0encourages colleagues to interact with and shape our academic and research community.<\/p>\n

Signposting survey<\/a> run about usage of digital resources to support academic and research staff, and preferences for future resource types.<\/p>\n

Results of last year\u2019s Culture, Employment and Development in Academic Research Survey (CEDARS)<\/a>\u00a0 published. Learn more and access additional information about what our researchers said<\/em><\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Staying up-to-date and in touch:<\/strong><\/p>\n

New GRC Bulletins containing relevant updates and opportunities launched, sent to academic and research staff monthly in term-time. View previous <\/em>Researcher Development<\/em><\/a> and <\/em>Event<\/em><\/a>s<\/em> editions.<\/em><\/p>\n

More frequent communications with academic and research staff, including emails via dynamic mailing lists (including the Bulletins) and regular tweets<\/a>.<\/p>\n
