Stream at iCON-STS 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"174\" data-end=\"490\">We are delighted to co-organise, with the Department of Science and Technology Studies, Faculty of Science, Universiti Malaya, a <strong data-start=\"303\" data-end=\"333\">thematic stream discussion<\/strong> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/umevent.um.edu.my\/iCONSTS2026\"><em data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"424\">International Conference on Science, Technology and Society 2026 (iCON-STS 2026)<\/em>,<\/a> taking place <strong data-start=\"439\" data-end=\"458\">22-24 July 2026<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"462\" data-end=\"489\">Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"492\" data-end=\"1024\">In 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-science-and-epistemic-justice\/files\/2025\/11\/ODESSI-2025-Conference-Report.pdf\">an international group of academics and civil society partners jointly called for a new <em data-start=\"589\" data-end=\"598\">Odyssey<\/em><\/a>\u2014<strong data-start=\"599\" data-end=\"692\">O.D.E.SS.I. (Open, Deliberative, Enabling, Sensible &amp; Sensitive, and Innovative)<\/strong>\u2014for public engagement in science and science diplomacy. This call is rooted in a shared recognition of the urgent need for renewed social dialogue <em data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"870\">on, for, and through science<\/em>\u2014dialogue capable of mending ideological, socio-economic, and epistemic divides within and across nations, and of addressing our shared planetary futures.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1026\" data-end=\"1202\">The core vision and strategies of this envisioned Odyssey are set out in the<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-science-and-epistemic-justice\/files\/2025\/04\/An-Odessi-for-Public-Enaggement-in-a-New-Era-of-Science.pdf\"> ODESSI concept paper, <\/a>with further elaboration available in the report from the most recent London conference.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1373\">This iCON-STS 2026 stream\u2014<strong data-start=\"1230\" data-end=\"1332\">Global Public Deliberation in Science and Technology: Knowledge Pluralism and the Policy Interface<\/strong>\u2014builds directly on the ODESSI framework.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1375\" data-end=\"1718\">In alignment with the conference\u2019s broader aims, we particularly envision this stream as a space to bring together academics, policymakers, and thought leaders to <strong data-start=\"1538\" data-end=\"1578\">critique, extend, deepen, and expand<\/strong> the ODESSI initiative and practices of global public deliberation more broadly, with particular relevance to Asia and the Global South.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1720\" data-end=\"1916\">We warmly invite abstract submissions (<strong data-start=\"1759\" data-end=\"1780\">maximum 250 words<\/strong>) by <strong data-start=\"1785\" data-end=\"1804\">1 February 2026<\/strong>, via the conference submission portal:<br data-start=\"1843\" data-end=\"1846\" \/><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/umevent.um.edu.my\/iCONSTS2026=20125fd9b2d43e340a35fb0278da235d\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1846\" data-end=\"1916\">https:\/\/umevent.um.edu.my\/iCONSTS2026=20125fd9b2d43e340a35fb0278da235d<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1720\" data-end=\"1916\">If you have any questions, please contact Prof Joy Y.
