{"id":673,"date":"2025-05-05T15:23:04","date_gmt":"2025-05-05T14:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-science-and-epistemic-justice\/?p=673"},"modified":"2025-05-05T15:27:39","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T14:27:39","slug":"prof-calnan-on-the-social-contract-between-doctors-and-society-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-science-and-epistemic-justice\/2025\/05\/05\/prof-calnan-on-the-social-contract-between-doctors-and-society-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Calnan on the Social Contract Between Doctors and Society in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\" data-start=\"322\" data-end=\"619\">In &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2949856225000224\">Shattered Assumptions: Unravelling of the Social Contract Between the Medical Profession and Society in India<\/a>,&#8217; a newly co-authored piece published in <em data-start=\"218\" data-end=\"238\">SSM\u2013Health Systems<\/em>, Professor Michael Calnan explores a troubling and timely issue\u2014the rising violence against doctors and what it reveals about the changing relationship between medicine and society in India.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"621\" data-end=\"1091\">Drawing on interviews with doctors, patients, journalists, lawyers, and police, the study uses the <em data-start=\"720\" data-end=\"741\">\u2018assumptive worlds\u2019 <\/em>framework to examine how doctors are coping with increasing hostility, eroding trust, and diminishing professional autonomy.
