Dr Falade Delivers Methods Workshop for Kenyan Students

GSEJ member Dr Bankole Falade delivered an online workshop on qualitative research methods for staff and students at St Paul’s University, Kenya on 29 October 2026. The workshop attracted 77 participants and sparked a lively Q&A, reflecting strong interest in the methodological approaches discussed.

The workshop formed part of ‘Publish or Perish? Qualitative Data Collection and Analysis’, a virtual training series organised by the university’s Research Office to strengthen research skills and support academic development.

Drawing on his extensive research experience, Dr Falade shared practical insights into qualitative data collection, including individual interviews, focus groups and longitudinal media analysis. He explored both manual and computer-assisted analytical approaches, highlighting thematic networks, theory-driven analysis, and the use of software such as IBM SPSS, QDA Miner/WordStat and IRAMUTEQ to analyse and visualise complex datasets. The session also addressed public accountability and good research practice.

Through activities such as this, GSEJ seeks to create opportunities for researchers across regions to share expertise, strengthen research capabilities and build connections, contributing to a more inclusive and globally connected research community.
