Looking to learn the landmarks of the Canterbury campus? Keen to find a quiet space or a lively place to meet new friends? We&#8217;ve got you! Here&#8217;s our quick run-down of the main sites and sights the campus has to offer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colleges<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are eight colleges at Kent, many of which house lecture theatres, seminar rooms, bars and social areas as well as a community of students who live there.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s Darwin and Woolf Colleges on the far North end of campus, near Hackington Road; the twin buildings of Rutherford and Eliot Colleges in the centre of campus (including Tyler and Becket Court accommodations, respectively); Keynes and Turing colleges between University Road and Giles Lane; Parkwood College \u2013 the largest of Kent\u2019s accommodation areas \u2013 and Medway College, made up of Pembroke and The Historic Dockyard in Chatham.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_974\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-974\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-974 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2023\/01\/51915558991_0755250ca2_w.jpg\" alt=\"Rutherford College, University of Kent\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-974\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rutherford College<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In addition to the main colleges, there are lots of other teaching buildings across Canterbury campus in which you might have a lecture or a seminar.<\/p>\n<p>These include Sibson, Kennedy, Chipperfield, Jennison, Pears, Stacey and Ingram at the Parkwood end of the campus near the Sports Centre. Then there\u2019s Marlowe, Jarman and Locke near the central plaza; and Grimond, Aphra and Lumley behind the Templeman Library. And don\u2019t forget Cornwallis next to the Gulbenkian Theatre and Cafe!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_975\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-975\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-975 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2023\/01\/51915881634_24c773aac5_w.jpg\" alt=\"Gulbenkian Cafe, University of Kent\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-975\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gulbenkian Cafe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Behind Parkwood you\u2019ll also find the Sports Pavilion, football fields and Indoor Tennis and Events Arena. Between Parkwood and Keynes College you\u2019ll find the Medical Centre and Pharmacy, while on the University Road side of the college, you\u2019ll find Student Support and Wellbeing (near the Duck Pond) and the Careers and Employability Service.<\/p>\n<p>On the plaza in the centre of campus, you\u2019ll find the larger of the two campus Co-op supermarkets (the other is in Parkwood, next to Woody&#8217;s Bar), along with The Venue &#8211; the University\u2019s own nightclub &#8211; and the Kent Union building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Library <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the very centre of campus, you\u2019ll find the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/is\/templeman\/pdf\/floor-plans.pdf\">Templeman Library<\/a>, which provides IT and library services for all students, staff and visitors. You\u2019ll definitely want to familiarise yourself with where your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/library-it\/your-subject-library-resource-guide\">subject library<\/a> is situated!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_971\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-971\" style=\"width: 399px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-971 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2023\/01\/51914257881_a75b6545ff_w.jpg\" alt=\"Templeman Library, University of Kent\" width=\"399\" height=\"248\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-971\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Templeman Library<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s also where you\u2019ll find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/student\/nexus\">Nexus<\/a>, your campus help point, situated in D-block on the Ground Floor (take the first right when you go through the main Library entrance). Nexus is a one-stop help point where you can find answers to any queries about your student experience, including accommodation, finance, wellbeing, careers and employability, IT and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exploring<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the far end of Parkwood, you\u2019ll find the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sustainability\/kentcog\">Kent Community Oasis Garden<\/a>, a multi-use space working to create a sustainability hub centred around growing food. Keep an eye on the University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/whats-on\/calendar#calendar\">What&#8217;s On Calendar<\/a> for their regular events!<\/p>\n<p>Canterbury campus is also situated in the midst of diverse woodland. Opposite Keynes College, you\u2019ll find Bluebell Woods, and Brotherhood Woods is situated behind Giles Lane and Parkwood Road. Both woods have numerous meandering footpaths to explore.<\/p>\n<p>And behind Eliot College, you\u2019ll find the hay meadow and Labyrinth, designed to provide a peaceful and accessible walk for all members of the University community.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_977\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-977\" style=\"width: 211px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-977\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2023\/01\/51914354928_1d9b50ef12_w.jpg\" alt=\"Labyrinth, University of Kent\" width=\"211\" height=\"250\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-977\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Labyrinth and Hay Meadow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Walking around campus late at night? Don\u2019t forget there\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/estates\/services\/security\/walking-taxi.html\">Walking Taxi Service<\/a> that runs 24 hours a day. You can use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/student\/safezone\">SafeZone app<\/a> to check in with Campus Security or a Security Officer will accompany you on your journey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Faith Spaces<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking for somewhere quiet to pray or meditate? Eliot College Chapel is open for Christian worship throughout the week; you can find it on the basement floor of the College. There\u2019s also a multi-faith space in Rutherford College Cloister area, available for meetings, prayer and worship. In Medway, there\u2019s a multi-faith room located in Pilkington 039.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/canterburymosque.co.uk\/?page_id=19\">Canterbury Mosqu<\/a>e is located behind Keynes College; it\u2019s independent of the University but visited by students and staff.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to make new friends who share your values and beliefs, why not join one of the many Kent Union religious <a href=\"https:\/\/kentunion.co.uk\/activities#societies\">groups and societies<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Further afield<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to make your way between the Canterbury and Medway campuses, there\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/transport\/commute-smarter\/campus-shuttle\">free shuttle bus service<\/a> for staff and students. The bus runs every hour from the Keynes bus stop in Canterbury to Pembroke and Western Avenue in Medway. It only runs during term time and you\u2019ll need to book your seat in advance via the website.<\/p>\n<p>Want to get a bus into town? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/transport\/commute-smarter\/bus-travel\/stagecoach-bus-tickets\">Stagecoach buses<\/a> stop at the Keynes, Darwin and Parkwood bus stops. A University of Kent DayRider costs \u00a33.30 and can be purchased on board the bus or via the Stagecoach Mobile App. Make sure you\u2019re carrying your KentOne card with you to prove you\u2019re a student, as the driver may ask to see it.<\/p>\n<p>So, there you have it!
